After not getting game time with the Indian team, Kuldeep Yadav has joined an English County side to hone his skills before the next India tour. The wily spinner has not been picked for the Zimbabwe T20Is, and with the next series taking place in August against Sri Lanka, Kuldeep has decided to try out his luck in England.
Several Indian players have already moved to England to play in their domestic tournaments, and Kuldeep becomes the latest entrant as English County team Yorkshire have roped in the Indian spinner.
Kuldeep Yadav joins Yorkshire for English domestic season
In the latest development, Kuldeep Yadav has joined Yorkshire for the upcoming riveting English domestic season. The Indian spinner will play in five ODI matches and three County Championship fixtures.
He could make his Yorkshire debut on Friday as the team will take on Glamorgan in a crucial battle. The spinner was delighted to join Yorkshire as he released his first official statement.
“I’m really pleased to be joining Yorkshire and grateful for this opportunity. It will be a real privilege to represent a Club with Yorkshire’s proud history.
“I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of playing in English conditions and after speaking with the management, I became really excited to join up with the team and I’m looking forward to making a positive contribution during my time at Headingley.”
Revealed: Why Kuldeep Yadav was signed by Yorkshire
A proven match-winner across formats for India, Kuldeep has exemplary numbers in all three formats of the game. He has won countless matches for India with the ball in hand, and that is one major factor why Yorkshire decided to rope him in.
Secondly, England has experienced a dry summer, and spinners have been largely effective with the ball on English wickets, and Yorkshire hope that Kuldeep can use this factor to his advantage.
“Given the dry summer we’ve experienced, we expect spin to play an important role during the closing stages of the season. Kuldeep gives us another dimension with his left-arm wrist spin and brings a wealth of experience at the highest level. We’re delighted to welcome him to Yorkshire," Yorkshire Cricket's General Manager said.
Kuldeep Yadav's recent struggles with the Indian team
The 31-year-old has been a vital cog for India, but somehow, the team management has hardly shown any trust in him in recent matches. The spinner has fallen in the pecking order, with Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar getting preference over him.

He was not picked in the T20I squad vs India, but was selected in the ODI team. However, in a surprising turn of events, the Shubman Gill-led side didn’t pick him for a single match as India lost the ODIs and Kuldeep warmed the bench for the entire tour.
The spinner still possesses the wicket-taking ability, but the management has snubbed him on a repeated basis.
Kuldeep Yadav's international numbers at a glance
Yorkshire need a world-class spinner to utilise the dry wickets in England, and they have got their man in Kuldeep. The World Cup winner has done well for Team India since his debut, and the numbers speak volumes of his talent.
He has taken 79 Test wickets, 194 ODI scalps and 95 T20I wickets in 18, 121, and 54 matches, respectively.
Moreover, in the ODIs, he boasts a stellar record in England, picking 15 wickets in just 10 matches, with an average of 32.33 and an economy of 5.00.
