One of KL Rahul’s closest Karnataka teammates and ex-Punjab Kings colleague, Mayank Agarwal is set to play the ongoing County Championship 2026 season in England. The 35-year-old has closed a deal with the Durham cricket club.
As per the signing, Agarwal will be available to play the final four matches of the County Championship Division Two 2026 matches, starting this week from September 2 onwards in Northampton.
Mayank Agarwal joins Durham after Yorkshire stint
A year after playing England domestic cricket for Yorkshire, India’s forgotten Test opener Mayank Agarwal has now joined the Durham cricket club for the remainder of the County Championship Division Two 2026 season.
The cricketer will now head to Chester-le-Street to join the prestigious cricket club as an official replacement of South African batter David Bedingham, who is scheduled to return home this week.

The 35-year-old seems to have received a grand welcome at Durham, with team coach Ryan Campbell expressing his delight over the inclusion of the prolific Indian batter.
Campbell said “We are delighted to have Mayank joining us for our County Championship run-in. Mayank is a hugely talented batter who has a superb first-class record, we look forward to him contributing to Durham as we look to secure our return to Division One of the County Championship.”
What is Mayank Agarwal record in County Cricket
Mayank Agarwal has previously played County Cricket for the Yorkshire cricket club. He was roped in by the club back in 2025 last year for three County Championship Division One 2025 fixtures.
In four innings spanning three matches, the elegant right-handed batter aggregated 201 runs at a prolific average of 50.25 and with an astonishing strike rate of above 70.
However, Agarwal scored 175 of those runs in a single innings at Leeds in match number 70 of the season. Incidentally, the cricketer registered his majestic maiden County ton and the 19th overall of his first-class career against Durham, the very same team he is now supposed to join.
The Karnataka batted belted his 175 runs off just 195 balls with 20 boundaries and five huge sixes, and paved way for Yorkshire to secure a comprehensive innings win by 44 runs.
Which matches will Mayank Agarwal play for Durham
As per the schedule, the Durham cricket team still has four matches left in the bank this County Championship Division Two 2026 season.
Currently placed at the top of the points table, Durham will now take on the Northamptonshire in Northampton between September 2 and September 5 this week. They will then travel to Chester-le-Street to face Middlesex between September 8 and September 11.
The team will take on Worcestershire at the same venue from September 15, before capping off their County Championship 2026 campaign in Manchester with an away fixture against Lancashire.
A prolific season for Mayank Agarwal can help him regain the selectors trust after falling out of Team India contention. He played the last of his 21 Tests for the Indian cricket team way back in March 2022 in Bengaluru.
