On Monday evening, the Kolkata Knight Riders hosted the Punjab Kings in Match 12 of IPL 2026 at the Eden Gardens after failing to win their first two matches of the season. This is the second time they played at home this season after suffering a 65-run loss at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game.
Having won the all-important toss on an overcast day with moist conditions, Ajinkya Rahane decided to bat first, and things quickly went south in the powerplay, as the ball got good swing movement early on. Courtesy of Xavier Bartlett, the Knight Riders were reduced to 25/2 in 3.4 overs before a long rain interruption.
As the match got halted, the camera panned to KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan, who was in attendance on the evening alongside CEO Venky Mysore. As the pair was seen in the same frame, KKR fans on the internet lost their cool and asked for the immediate sacking of Mysore, due to underwhelming returns and tactical blunders after the IPL 2024 win.
Shah Rukh Khan and Venky Mysore spotted together; KKR fans left fuming
Since the third IPL title win in IPL 2024 under Shreyas Iyer, KKR infamously let go of the title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer in the following season and appointed Ajinkya Rahane — an accelerated round auction pick — as their captain. The change of guard only resulted in 5 wins in the 15 matches till their clash against the Punjab Kings in IPL 2026.
On the other hand, Iyer’s leadership led the Punjab Kings to a final, also restricting KKR from chasing 112 runs last season. Additionally, some other punts, like spending INR 23.75 crore on Venkatesh Iyer, did not work, derailing their auction strategy.
The amalgamation of many such management blunders has pitted the KKR fans against Venky Mysore and co. Additionally, the Bollywood star was also seen in an animated discussion with Mysore, leaving fans in anticipation as the speculations of a potential sacking arose.
Many people on the internet asked Shah Rukh Khan to replicate the Sanjiv Goenka-KL Rahul with Mysore and captain Rahane, while others asked for a ‘belt treatment’.

Rahane’s questionable call at toss in KKR vs PBKS
Adding to the fury of the KKR fans, the team management made another blunder in their third match of the season after spending big in the IPL 2026 auction. On an overcast day, where it was raining for a long time, the conditions suited seam bowling early on, with the moist wicket.
Interestingly, Rahane coined it as a drier surface, with not a lot of grass, contrary to the actual conditions and decided to bat first. The decision quickly backfired, and KKR were put on the back foot only 10 balls into the match with two big overseas stars, Finn Allen and Cameron Green getting dismissed quickly.

KKR eyes fightback from Rahane-Raghuvanshi vs PBKS
After losing early wickets in challenging conditions, the Mumbai duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi find themselves in the middle.
They have spent a considerable amount of time together with the state side, and started the IPL 2026 with three fifties among them in 2 matches. With the rhythm they are in, the pair is now expected to rebuild quickly against a formidable PBKS side.
The conditions are not expected to ease out for them post the rain break, but with around 16 overs still to be played, a big partnership between the KKR captain and Raghuvanshi will be of utmost importance. A fifty-run stand could stabilise the innings and set the likes of Rinku Singh, Rovman Powell and Ramandeep Singh to capitalise in the death overs.
