Earlier reports in March had painted worrying signs for Jasprit Bumrah before the Mumbai Indians' IPL 2026 campaign opener against the Kolkata Knight Riders. However, recent developments confirm his fitness and availability for the game on March 29.

Jasprit Bumrah apparently visited the Bengaluru Centre of Excellence days before the IPL 2026 began to check his fitness and workload concerns after the T20 World Cup 2026 concluded. That agitated fans on whether he will be fit to play in the mega tournament or not.

Bumrah has been an asset for Mumbai Indians for many years now, and his absence from the squad would have surely hampered the team, given the reliability on him with pace options besides Trent Boult.

In a recent press conference on the eve of the MI vs KKR match at Wankhede, the coach, Mahela Jayawardene, confirmed his availability for the opening game, assuring fans of his presence.

Bumrah Fit To Play IPL 2026 For MI

Speaking at a pre-match conference, the Mumbai Indians coach was elaborate with his comments on Bumrah. “Jassie (Jasprit Bumrah) is back with the (MI) squad and he is available to play,” Mahela told the press.

Bumrah visited the BCCI Centre of Excellence shortly before the Indian Premier League for routine proactive workload management and strength training.

While this was a regular check-up for the fast bowler, who usually manages his workload strictly due to his multi-format commitments, fans and spectators assumed that Bumrah's availability might be a concern after his visit to the CoE.

To the relief of fans, Bumrah is fit and available to bowl for the Mumbai Indians in this tournament and will be actively participating.

Why Did Jasprit Bumrah Report To CoE Before IPL?

Bumrah reported to the CoE for a strength and conditioning block designed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India's medical team. That training regime helped Bumrah focus on recovery to maintain peak fitness for the upcoming white-ball tour of England as well as for IPL 2026.

Although Bumrah has a rich history of injuries, the pacer’s successful T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, where he was the joint-leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets, is something that the board cannot afford to overlook. Hence, even if a small setback occurs, Bumrah is likely to be rested immediately.

MI Pace Battery Might Be Depleted Without Bumrah

Now, as the Mumbai Indians are set to lift their title for a sixth time in IPL 2026, the bowling attack without Jasprit Bumrah would have been a pale unit, with only Shardul Thakur, Ashwini Kumar, and Mohammed Izhar forming the pace battery.

Seamers like Hardik Pandya, Corbin Bosch, Trent Boult, and Deepak Chahar will be responsible for filling in the void if somehow Bumrah gets ruled out in later stages of the match.

Being a pacer-friendly pitch, Wankhede would suit Bumrah’s abilities, who managed to take 18 wickets in the previous IPL season while bowling at a super-tight economy rate of 6.67.
