In the latest development, India has been given a sigh of relief as star batter Abhishek Sharma has been discharged from the hospital and could play a prominent part in the T20 World Cup match against Namibia. The opening batter was battling a serious stomach infection and was admitted to the hospital on Monday.

Abhishek, alongside the entire Indian team, was invited by head coach Gautam Gambhir to his residence for a team dinner; however, Abhishek left his house early as the player reportedly felt unwell and was admitted to the hospital before the all-important Namibia match.

Tilak Varma gives massive Abhishek Sharma update

Ahead of the match vs Namibia, Tilak Varma attended the pre-game presser, and he confirmed the official news and gave India something to be happy about.

"When we reached Delhi, he was taken to hospital for examination. Today he was discharged. We have one more day to go so we’ll decide tomorrow," Tilak Varma confirmed the update.

With the Pakistan game coming up on Sunday, India might want to give Abhishek rest for the next match, and there is a strong possibility of seeing Sanju Samson open the innings.

How Abhishek Sharma landed in hospital

The southpaw was picked in India’s starting XI vs the USA, and he failed to deliver the goods as Abhishek departed for a golden duck. He didn’t even field against the USA as Sanju Samson came onto the field to replace him. However, it was later revealed that the opening batter played the game with a high fever and an upset stomach.

The entire Indian team reached Gautam Gambhir’s house together, but eyebrows were raised when Abhishek left the residence early and looked unwell from the face. Later on, it was revealed that he was affected with a stomach infection, and was kept under the doctor’s observation.

Why India shouldn't risk Abhishek against Namibia

There is a gulf of difference between India and Namibia’s quality, and even though the Men in Blue shouldn’t take their opponent lightly, the Suryakumar-Yadav-led side will start as firm favourites.

Even if the team rests Abhishek, there is a solid replacement ready in Sanju Samson, and the keeper-batter can easily slot in that position at the top. Hence, even without their main batter, India won’t press the panic button.

There is no guarantee that Abhishek will be a hundred percent against Namibia, and the management shouldn’t risk him against the team. There is a bigger match coming up (against Pakistan), and the Men in Blue need Abhishek blitz against Pakistan more than they need him against Namibia.

Pakistan will unleash a plethora of spinners against the Indian team on February 15, and India needs their best spin-hitter at the top to counter the Pakistan bowlers. He is India’s in-form batter, and his exploits against Pakistan could decide the fate of the game on Sunday.
