The 'Parchi' celebration was back in the IPL 2026 for the third time in the season as the Lucknow Super Giants hosted the Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium. In the thick of things was Akash Singh, playing his first match of the season and straightaway creating an impact.

Having waited for his opportunity for 11 matches, the left-arm quick was handed the new ball on the night, and he made full use of it with his brilliant hit-the-deck bowling. He bowled all his four overs on the trot and dismantled the CSK top-order with a 3/26 to his name.

Proving his worth, he also took out the parchi (note) with a special message printed for the naysayers, while also taking a subtle dig at the team management. Soon, the commentators also joined the trend and had their own moment of fun in the comm box, pulling each other’s legs.

Akash Singh’s 3/26 on the night came at the back of getting an opportunity after an injury to Mohsin Khan and underperformances of Avesh Khan. Facing his former team, with whom he had also won the IPL 2026, he dismissed both the openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson and the dangerous Urvil Patel in quick succession.

After dismissing a batter in each of his overs after the opening over, he took out a note that said, “Akki on fire, Akash knows how to take wickets in a T20 game.”

In the aftermath of the three wickets, Dewald Brevis hit him for a crunching six with a cut over the square. Renowned broadcaster, Mpumelelo "Pommie" Mbangwa, who was sharing the commentary box with Ian Bishop and Sunil Gavaskar, went on to take a fun dig at Bishop, who was on Akash Singh hype-train throughout the match and took out his own note.

“Talk Na Bish,” Mbangwa’s chit said.

How did the Parchi celebration become famous?

Pommie Mbangwa’s chit was a throwback to Denesh Ramdin’s infamous celebration in 2012 after his century against England in Birmingham. It was a straight dig at Sir Vivian Richards’ criticism, where he wrote, “Talk Na, Viv.” He went on to show remorse for doing so after the end of the match, terming it an emotional move.

However, this celebration was brought back to the IPL by Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2026 to thank the Sunrisers Hyderabad fans for their support in a tough season for the team. He dedicated his century against PBKS to the Orange Army.

In IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians’ spinner Raghu Sharma dedicated his first IPL wicket to his spiritual mentor after working hard and making a name for himself at the age of 33.

Before Akash Singh, the last person to celebrate with a parchi was Urvil Patel, who dedicated his record-breaking maiden IPL fifty to his father.

CSK fights back vs LSG

Following three early wickets, which reduced CSK to 52/3 in 7.2 overs, the five-time IPL winners fought back with a 70(44) stand between Dewald Brevis and Kartik Sharma. Brevis got out for 25 off 16, but the latter scored yet another IPL fifty after being backed by the franchise at number 4.

At the 16-over mark, Kartik Sharma got out for 71(42), following a 15-run over off Shahbaz Ahmed, and CSK’s score reads 142/5.
