India and Pakistan, the biggest rivals in cricket, are all set to face each other in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This highly awaited match will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 14 at 7:00 PM.
How have IND and PAK performed in T20 World Cup so far?
Both India and Pakistan have started their campaigns strongly in the tournament. Therefore, they will be confident going into this important match.
Notably, India began their T20 World Cup journey with a tense win against the USA. Although the match was close, India managed to win thanks to a brilliant batting performance from Suryakumar Yadav.
After that, India delivered a powerful performance against Namibia national cricket team in Delhi. They won the match by a huge margin of 93 runs.
On the other hand, Pakistan also had a mixed start but remained unbeaten. In their opening match against the Netherlands, they faced a tough challenge and almost lost. However, they managed to hold their nerves and secure the win. Later, Pakistan bounced back strongly and defeated the USA comfortably, making it two wins in a row.
Considering that both teams are unbeaten in the current tournament, a win in this match will greatly improve their chances of qualifying for the Super 8 stage.
IND vs PAK weather forecast
However, the weather could play an important role in this big clash. Rain is expected to threaten the IND vs PAK Group A match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
According to Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, a low-pressure area may form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal around the same time. As a result, there are concerns that rain might interrupt the game or even cause a complete washout.
As per AccuWeather reports, there is a chance of showers around 5 PM, which is two hours before the match begins. However, rain during the actual match time is less likely. The weather is expected to remain cloudy, with temperatures around 27 degrees Celsius and humidity levels in the 70 percent range.
IND vs PAK Qualification scenario
If rain completely washes out the IND vs PAK match in Colombo, both teams will share one point each. In that case, India and Pakistan will move to five points from three matches, which would firmly place them in the top two spots in Group A.
Since there is no Reserve Day in the group stage and at least five overs per side are required for a result, a full washout would mean the points are split.
With five points each, both teams would comfortably qualify for the Super 8 stage because the remaining teams would not be able to overtake them.
Notably, Namibia have already lost both of their games and are virtually out of the qualification race. Meanwhile, the USA and the Netherlands have two points each from three matches. Even if they win their final group games, they can only reach a maximum of four points, which would still be less than five.
However, if rain shortens the match but a result is achieved, the winning team will directly secure a Super 8 spot. The losing side would then remain on four points, level with USA and Netherlands, making the final group games and NRR crucial in deciding the second qualification place.
