Just when the IPL 2026 season began peaking with thrilling and entertaining encounters, an emergency warning message led to speculations of the alleged postponement of the tournament.
The season kicked off on March 28 and has entered its second phase. RCB, the defending champions, are riding high on momentum, while Punjab Kings are again emerging as strong title contenders.
IPL 2026 to be postponed by the government?
Meanwhile, on Saturday, May 2, an emergency alert popped up on the cellphones of citizens across India. These notifications are part of the Government of India’s new real-time disaster warning system powered by Cell Broadcast technology.
Unlike regular SMS, this system is designed to deliver alerts instantly. even during network congestion, ensuring critical information reaches people without delay.
However, a few fans on social media linked it to the IPL. A user claimed that the message seemed like an alert that the IPL 2026 season is getting postponed.
But that claim is completely untrue and fabricated. The emergency notification was just a test run where the government wanted to check the readiness of the emergency services.
It had nothing to do with the IPL or any sports-related tournament whatsoever. Hence, for now, the IPL 2026 season will continue to run as per schedule.

Who won yesterday’s IPL 2026 game between RR and DC?
Meanwhile, on May 1st, the Rajasthan Royals took on the Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Riyan Parag rediscovered his form and smashed 90 off 50 balls to guide RR to a strong total of 225 runs.
He was well supported by Dononvan Ferreira, who scored 47 off 14 balls, including 6 sixes. However, the Delhi Capitals came out all guns blazing in the chase.
KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka stitched a 110-run opening stand. Later, Nitish Rana and Ashutosh Sharma added finishing touches as DC wrapped up the game in 19.1 overs to seal a 7-wicket victory.
Despite the loss, RR are placed fourth on the points table, while DC are settled at sixth place.
MI to face arch-rival CSK in revenge week
Meanwhile, in this revenge week, arch-rivals Mumbai Indians and CSK are set to clash on May 2 at the Chepauk Stadium. In their previous encounter, Chennai unleashed total domination.
Batting first, CSK scored 207/6, courtesy of Sanju Samson’s century. However, in the chase, MI had an ugly collapse. Akeal Hosein took 4 wickets for just 17 runs to bundle out Mumbai for just 104 runs.
Now, with the playoff race heating up, the Mumbai Indians are hungry for redemption. With just 2 wins in this tournament so far, the franchise is lying ninth on the points table, while CSK find themselves in seventh spot with 3 wins in 8 games.
