Glasgow Cosmic's Lungi Ngidi Bags 4-fer In ETPL To Break R Ashwin's Team

Lungi Ngidi has been one of the best value-for-money picks in the IPL 2026 already, and with his bid taken by Glasgow Cosmic in the marquee section of their player draft, they have secured yet another diamond in their belt. 

Ngidi have successfully started his season in the European T20 Premier League with a massive 4-wicket haul after an underwhelming 1-13 against the Edinburgh Castle Rockers. This 4-wicket haul now represents his 8th four-fer of his T20 career.  

Lungi Ngidi registers first 4-fer of ETPL

After Trent Boult’s magnificent finish against Glasgow Cosmic with his fifer in an early clash, Ngidi have now registered the first four-fer of the tournament and is also the joint highest wicket-taker of ETPL 2026.

The South African pace star achieved this feat against Dublin Guardians on August 29. Defending their target of 184 runs, Ngidi first set up Muhammad Waseem, the opener, followed by George Dockrell in the 17th over. Waseem was sent for a duck as Ngidi struck in the very first over, breaking the crucial confidence of the chasing team. 

Dockrell’s wicket was crucial too, as it built up more pressure on the Guardians as they were slipping behind in the chase. Ravichandran Ashwin, the skipper, who came to bat at No. 8, was also sent back by Ngidi for a duck as he completed his 4-fer with the wicket of Chris Wood.

Overall, the constant wicket strikes didn't let Guardians build any momentum into their game, as alongside Lungi Ngidi, Paul van Meekeren and Ali Khan contributed to keeping the batters on their toes.

How Ngidi exploited the European conditions?

Ngidi is an excellent pace bowler. The tall figure that can clock 140kph+ has been a menace in European conditions. In T20 cricket, he already boasts 17 wickets from 9 innings, with his best figures remaining 5/39. 

Interestingly, he has also been very economical with the ball in Europe, at only 6.13. The grassy pitches help the ball swing considerably, which might have helped Ngidi frustrate the Guardian batters even in the second half. 

Overall, Ngidi’s strike rate in Europe has been 10.2, which further underlines why he had the most advantageous position to better exploit the pitch at Sportpark Duivesteijn, Voorburg, in the Netherlands. Consistent bounce and the long-arm movement gave way to Ngidi’s fast bowling that ultimately left the batters puzzled.

Lungi Ngidi and his franchise cricket exploits

Ngidi has been a prolific overseas player and has also featured in the IPL and Major League Cricket, besides the SA20. He has been playing in the IPL since 2018. Representing CSK, RCB and his latest team, Delhi Capitals. In the 2026 edition, Ngidi has taken 13 wickets. In the SA20, he has claimed a total of 34 wickets while representing the Paarl Royals.

However, the latest season has not been particularly impressive for the bowler, who picked up only eight wickets in SA20 2025-26. Lungi Ngidi represented MLC only in 2024, when he played two matches for the Seattle Orcas and picked up just one wicket.

His overall T20 record includes 234 wickets from 188 matches and has an average of 21.93, an economy rate of 8.29 and a strike rate of 15.8.
