Gambhir, Agarkar Get Fresh Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Demands For 2027 World Cup

One cannot deny the fact that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the heart and soul of the India's ODI team. Both the players have been in the limelight ever since India started their preparations for the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2027.

As India continue their preparations for the marquee event in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, one question continues to dominate on Social media - Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli be part of India’s squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup?

The debate intensified during the recently concluded ODI series against England after reports claimed that the third ODI at Lord's could be Rohit Sharma’s final match.

Amid all the growing talks, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has urged the Indian team management, headed by head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, to provide both Rohit and Virat with complete clarity regarding their future.

Yuvraj Singh Sends Clear Message To Ajit Agarkar And Gautam Gambhir

It is important to mention that Yuvraj Singh believes the responsibility lies with the selectors and the Gautam Gambhir-led coaching staff to decide whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of India's plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Yuvraj said senior players deserve honest communication from the management. According to him, if the team wants Rohit and Virat to play the World Cup, they should be told clearly and backed without creating unnecessary pressure after every series.

“I have been in that position, which Rohit and Virat find themselves in. So, it's not fair for us to judge whether they should play. It's the team management, the coach and the selectors who have to decide that."

"If you want them to play the World Cup, you have to put your hand on their shoulders and tell them, 'Guys, we want you to play the World Cup,” Yuvraj told JioStar.

“We are backing you all the way. Go out there and be yourselves. There is no stress that tomorrow, if you don't have a good series, that you're not going to be in the team.' You need to have that clarity from the coach, captain and selectors, whoever it is,” added the former all-rounder.

“Obviously, Virat and Rohit are of such stature, given what they've contributed and what they've given to the game. So, it's important to give them that clarity about what we want from them,” he added.

Yuvraj Singh further stated that India need the right balance of experienced players and youngsters if they are to challenge for another ODI World Cup title. 

He said that if Rohit and Kohli are in the plans, the management should secure them immediately by clearly communicating its decision.

"Ideally, you need a balance of experience and young guys in the team. If Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are part of your plans for the World Cup, tell them now and secure them. The outside noise about age and form will always be there, but the management must have clarity with its senior players. And if someone isn't in your plans, be honest with them.

"It will be a hard call, it might look bad on the outside, but they'll appreciate that you said it to their face. What Virat and Rohit have done for India is unmatched; the hundreds they've scored, the matches they've won and their contribution as players and captains is unbelievable. But you need to have clarity with your seniors," concluded Yuvraj.

How Did Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Perform In IND vs ENG ODIs?

Both Rohit and Virat delivered solid performances during the ODI series against England. Virat scored 144 runs in three innings at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 109.09.

After being dismissed for just 5 runs in the opening ODI, Kohli bounced back strongly and made 65 off 66 balls in the second match and 74 off 60 balls in the series decider.

Rohit also answered his critics in style. With retirement rumours dominating headlines before the final ODI, the star player produced a brilliant knock of 138 runs from just 110 balls. Overall, Rohit finished the three-match series with 175 runs at an average of 58.33 and a strike rate of 98.31.
