Sri Lanka A and India A are set to begin their red-ball campaign when they face off in the first unofficial Test at the Galle International Stadium on June 25.

The two-match series presents a valuable opportunity for several emerging players to push their case for senior national selection while gaining experience in challenging subcontinent conditions.

Sri Lanka A will be led by Sahan Arachchige and will look to make full use of home conditions. Experienced wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella adds stability to the batting unit, while Ahan Wickramasinghe, Ashen Bandara and Ravindu Fernando will be expected to contribute heavily with the bat.

The hosts also possess a balanced bowling attack featuring Mohamed Shiraz, Chamika Gunasekara, Kavindu Pathiratne and Dilum Sudeera Thilakaratne.

India A enter the series with a talented squad captained by Dhruv Jurel. The visitors boast a strong batting lineup featuring Sai Sudharsan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal and Shaik Rasheed, all of whom have impressed in domestic cricket.

The Indian bowling attack also looks well-equipped for Galle's conditions. Harsh Dubey, Saransh Jain and Zeeshan Ansari offer spin options, while Anshul Kamboj, Yash Thakur, Gurnoor Brar and Auqib Nabi will lead the pace department.

So, ahead of the much-anticipated Sri Lanka A vs India A 1st Test, let's take a look at the Galle Stadium pitch report, weather forecast and key match details.

[Galle International Stadium Test match stats]

Galle International Stadium has traditionally been one of the most balanced Test venues in Sri Lanka during the early stages of a match.

Technically sound batters can score heavily, as reflected by the first-innings average of nearly 40 runs per wicket. However, the surface tends to deteriorate as the game progresses, bringing bowlers back into the contest.

The pitch is generally more favourable for spin bowlers than pacers, especially from Day 3 onwards. While fast bowlers can extract some movement with the new ball, the dry surface and increasing wear usually allow spinners to dominate.

Teams batting first have enjoyed greater success at Galle. Of the 49 Tests played here, sides batting first have won 26 matches compared to 16 wins for teams fielding first.

In a five-day Test match, the captain winning the toss is likely to choose to bat first. Putting runs on the board before the pitch starts offering substantial turn should be the key to win.
