Tilak Varma, the current captain of the India A team against Afghanistan A in the Tri-Nation Series, has been reportedly labelled as a ‘scammer’ due to a move that has stunned the newly introduced Telangana T20 League.
As per a latest report airing on the internet, Tilak Varma, who was bought by Medak Falcons for the Telangana T20 League, will not play a single match for the team despite being bought as the most expensive player of the franchise.
As Tilak is currently performing his duties as the India A captain, he will be playing the Ireland and England T20I series starting from late June. Hence, this has brought up a question mark on his participation in the Telangana League.
Tilak Flawlessly Leading India A vs Afghanistan A
Tilak Varma has been an impressive captain so far, with an average of 57.33 from the four matches he played against Afghanistan A.
He led with the bat in the first and second ODI, scoring 60 and 66 respectively, although his next two encounters in the fourth and fifth ODI weren't as good as he had planned them to be.
Tilak's next assignment is set to be the two T20Is that India is scheduled to play against Ireland on 26 and 28 June.
Amid this hustle and bustle of a tight schedule of international duties, Tilak's participation in the Telangana T20 League remains doubtful, despite him being bought for a whopping price of 33 lakh from a purse of 60 lakh by Medak Falcons.

Telangana T20 League And The Tilak Varma Buzz
For the unaware, the inaugural Telangana T20 League has been officially approved by the BCCI, where it will be the state's first-ever franchise-based T20 cricket tournament.
The tournament will feature 32 matches over 21 days, as eight regional teams will be competing to promote local talent and provide a pathway to the IPL.
The tournament is specifically modelled after the IPL, featuring a round-robin stage followed by the playoffs and international-level domestic talents and stars like Tilak as well as Mohammed Siraj.
As the auction ended, Medak Falcons bought Varma for 33 lakhs, but as per a report from the Indian Cricket Ministry on their official X handle, they indirectly labelled Varma as a freeloader for pocketing 33 lakhs without even playing a single match because of the upcoming T20Is.
The Telangana T20 League will start on June 21 and end on July 12, which will interrupt Tilak's schedule as he will play five T20Is against England from 1 July to 11 July and two T20Is against Ireland on 26 and 28 June.
Hence, this officially means that he would pocket the Telangana T20 League salary without playing even a single match, as per the report.
Will Tilak Varma Really Get The Salary Without Even Playing A Single Match?
However, is it a fact that Tilak will not be playing a match and still get the full salary from the Telangana T20 League? Apparently, Tilak will not play in the Telangana T20 League due to his international duties, but that also means that the franchise will not have to pay the player.
As per the agreements, the franchise will pay the player only when he plays matches, and if he is not participating, he will not get his salary.
Exceptions And What Is Tilak's Final Fate?
Notably, if Varma was fully fit and available for the franchise but was benched, he would have received 100% of his auction salary.
However, this is an exceptional case. Tilak might get ruled out even before the start of the season because of his international duties, which would make the franchise not obligated to pay him his salary.
Even partial availability due to international commitments is paid on a pro-rata basis for the duration of matches only when players are available.
In short, Tilak Varma, if available, will get a salary for the matches he plays, and if not, he cannot draw a single penny from the Telangana T20 League auction price of 33 lakhs.
