Shreyas Iyer's sister, Shresta Iyer, is quite active on social media, and her presence has landed both her and the cricketer in some trouble. 

Shreyas, the ex-Kolkata Knight Riders skipper and current Punjab Kings captain, had been a favourite among the Men in Purple after he led the team to victory in the Indian Premier League 2024.

However, soon after he was released in the mega auction, there were often subtle, indirect criticisms hurled towards the KKR management by his sister, Shresta Iyer on Instagram and Twitter. Most recently, a video of Shresta has been going viral, where she received backlash for naming her pet cat after Gautam Gambhir.

The Beef Between Shresta Iyer And KKR

The probable tension between Shresta Iyer and KKR management stems from Shreyas Iyer being left out even after a victorious 2024 campaign, which Shresta protested indirectly on her social media handle.

Earlier in IPL 2026, too, during the PBKS vs KKR match, which was washed out due to rain, Shresta posted a video on her social media account that translated to, "We Punjabis have a big heart, so we gave you a point," indirectly pointing at KKR for sharing a rain-affected point.

However, the joke did not land well, as Kolkata were struggling at the bottom of the table, and KKR fans felt it was disrespectful. Consequently, Shresta had to delete the video from her social media accounts.

Shresta Receives Huge Backlash Over Pet's Name

Further escalating, a video of Shreyas Iyer's sister playing with her pet cat,’GG’, received massive backlash on social media, with some defending her while others criticised her over the perceived connection with KKR and Gautam Gambhir.

Is Shresta Iyer’s Cat Really Named ‘GG’?

However, is Shresta Iyer's cat really named Gigi, or has there been massive confusion among fan bases?

Nine weeks earlier, a video was posted by Shresta Iyer on her Instagram handle, where she shared a clip with the caption, "Jiji and his obsession with chicken," where the spelling was ‘JiJi’ and not ‘GG’.

The video was simply a fun and playful clip where the two were seen interacting in front of the camera. As Shresta clearly mentioned the name as ‘JiJi’ it instantly dismisses any ill intent or indirect abuse aimed at Kolkata Knight Riders fans or any KKR or Shreyas Iyer connection.

Punjab Kings Dominating IPL 2026 Points Table

Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings have been doing great on the points table of the Indian Premier League 2026. Currently, they are the table-toppers and are unbeaten in their run, winning four out of five games and having nine points in their bag.

So far, they have defeated big names like the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, alongside the Gujarat Titans, with the Kolkata Knight Riders clash being abandoned.

They will next face Lucknow Super Giants to aim to keep their unbeaten streak alive, as the two sides will meet at New Chandigarh on April 19 for their 29th clash of the IPL.
