Imran Tahir, on Sunday, made history at the age of 47. The veteran leg-spinner from South Africa led the Guyana Amazon Warriors to win the Global Super League (GSL) 2026.
Tahir did his bit to lead by example for the Guyana-based franchise, picking up five wickets in as many matches at an economy rate of 6.90. He was exceptional in the GSL final against San Francisco Unicorns, returning 2/16 off his four overs to help his side win by six runs.
The Imran Tahir Masterclass
To add more drama, Guyana slipped from 29/8 to reach 85 before losing all 10 wickets in 18.5 overs. Imran Tahir, coming to bat at No. 11, added an important run-a-ball 11 to save the humiliation.
After that, Imran Tahir’s impeccable bowling, coupled with able support from Mohammad Nabi, Dwaine Pretorius and Gudakesh Motie, among others, folded San Francisco Unicorns for 79 in 18.3 overs.
So, how many major franchise T20 league titles has Tahir won after the GSL 2026 triumph? Here, in this article, let’s take a look at his most notable achievements.
Global Super League 2026
The Global Super League 2026 began on July 23 and ended on August 2. It was a five-team tournament, and Guyana advanced to the next stage by topping the chart, with three wins in four matches.

Guyana’s only defeat in GSL 2026 came against Perth Scorchers. There, they lost by 14 runs, getting bundled out for 121 in reply to Perth’s 135.
Global Super League 2025
Imran Tahir also won GSL 2025, meaning they won the Global Super League in successive editions with the recent success.

Tahir was more influential with the ball, claiming 14 wickets in five matches at an average of just 9.29. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament, although he conceded 39 runs for his two wickets in the final against Rangpur Riders.
Caribbean Premier League 2023
Imran Tahir was simply magnificent as Guyana Amazon Warriors captain during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. There, he helped his side top the table with eight wins and just one defeat, and ended up winning the title by defeating star-studded Trinbago Knight Riders by nine wickets.
In the CPL 2023 final, Tahir was incredibly good with the ball, giving up only eight runs in his four overs and taking two important wickets, of Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo.
To highlight how significant the CPL 2023 triumph was in Tahir’s captaincy career, Trinbago Knight Riders had Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Sunil Narine, apart from Russell and Bravo.
Did South Africa Miss The Trick By Not Giving Tahir The Captain's Hat?
Apart from playing 20 Tests and 107 ODIs, Tahir has played 38 T20Is for South Africa. In the shortest format of the game, he claimed 63 wickets, averaging 15.04 while maintaining an economy rate of 6.73.
However, Tahir has not played a single T20I match for South Africa since 2019. And the success he had as a captain came after his 40s.
So, it is safe to say that South Africa did miss the leadership qualities that Tahir possesses, at least in the shortest format of the game. At the same time, one can identify the difference in competitiveness in major franchise T20 Leagues such as IPL, BBL or even PSL.
Nevertheless, there is no disregard for the achievements of Tahir as captain at the fag end of his illustrious career. And South Africa, even if that is a little, could have benefited had they not moved on just because of his age.
