The preparations for The Hundred 2026 season are in full flow, with nearly all franchises engaging themselves in some grueling training sessions in England. The London Spirit franchise also underwent a rigorous session on July 22 as they gear up to take on Manchester Originals in London this week.
At one point of the training session, London Spirit’s South Africa import and CSK star Dewald Brevis was practicing some shots in the middle. The explosive Proteas batter was latter offered teachings for a new shot by team’s batting coach Dinesh Karthik.
It is worth noting that while Brevis plays for the CSK franchise in the IPL, Karthik also serves the batting coach of the RCB franchise. Both CSK and RCB share a rich legacy and an intense rivalry with each other, highly popularized in the IPL under the moniker ‘Southern Derby’.
Dinesh Karthik promises to teach Dewald Brevis a ‘new shot’
During a London Spirit training session in England for The Hundred 2026 season, South Africa import Dewald Brevis was spotted freeing his arms to hit some huge shots. The cricketer later walked up to team’s batting coach Dinesh Karthik and asked for some valuable inputs.

While Karthik vowed to assist Brevis with his batting issue, the former Indian cricketer also jokingly asked the young Proteas batter to not use his shot against the RCB franchise in IPL.

Karthik’s comment was made in jest as he did not want Brevis to use the new shot against RCB in the IPL, given the former is the franchise's batting coach.
Karthik indirectly confirms sustained stay at RCB
The hilarious moment between Dinesh Karthik and Dewald Brevis also pretty much confirmed that the former Indian wicketkeeper-batter will continue to remain as RCB’s batting coach in the IPL.
Earlier this month, several unconfirmed reports stated that Karthik was in consideration to join the CSK franchise as its new head coach for next year’s IPL 2027 season. The report was shared by several media outlets and cricket fans, especially after CSK parted ways with its lifelong coach, Stephen Fleming.
Dinesh Karthik, Andy Flower to reprise RCB role for London Spirit
Not long ago, the London Spirit franchise joined hands with IPL 2026 winners RCB ahead of The Hundred 2026 season. The England-based franchise pretty much hired the entire RCB coaching staff, including head coach Andy Flower and batting coach Dinesh Karthik.
Mo Bobat, Malolan Rangarajan (RCB scout), and Freddie Wilde (team analyst) also joined London Spirit as the franchise aims to reverse its fortunes this year.
As per the schedule, the London Spirt franchise will be taking on the Manchester Super Giants in their opening match of The Hundred 2026 season. The match will be hosted by the iconic Lord’s in London. The action is slated to commence from 11:00 PM IST onwards on Thursday, July 23.
