As reported earlier, the Indian board is looking to host the upcoming IPL 2027 mini-auction on December 16 in Goa. The same has been confirmed by the BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia.

That said, the date may cause some issues for the BCCI, as the IPL 2027 mini-auction will clash with an ODI match to be held in India.

While an IPL auction has previously coincided with an international fixture involving the Men in Blue, this will be the first time both events are held simultaneously in India.

BCCI secretary confirms date for IPL 2027 mini-auction

While speaking to the Hindustan Times, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the IPL auction is back in India after four years. The previous three IPL auctions were held outside India in the Middle East.

“Yes, the auction will be held on December 16,” Saikia told HT.

The IPL 2027 mini-auctions will be held on the same day as the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka, scheduled at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Although the franchises have already started trading players as needed, they have nearly a month left to announce the list of retained and released players for IPL 2027. So far, DC has been the most active team, trading Rishabh Pant and Zeeshan Ansari after a six-place finish last season.

Reportedly, the deadline for submitting their final list of retained and released players is November 15, 2026.

What are BCCI rules for IPL 2027 mini-auction?

As far as the IPL rules are concerned, the BCCI holds a mega-auction once every three years, which was last held ahead of IPL 2025. This means the upcoming auction will be the second of two mini-auctions in the current cycle.

In the IPL 2027 mini-auction, teams can retain or release as many players as they want, with no compulsion whatsoever. Meanwhile, they will have a top cap of INR 157 crore in their purse, up by 6 crore from the last auction under the IPL Governing Council Player Regulations.
