In the latest development, the IPL 2027 mini auction date and venue have reportedly been revealed, with the marquee event taking place on December 16, 2026, and Goa will host all ten franchises for the mini auction.
According to a Cricbuzz report, multiple IPL franchises have confirmed receiving a message from the BCCI logistical team for the same. However, a formal email confirming the date and the venue has not been sent by the governing council.
Goa to host IPL 2027 mini auction
The Cricbuzz report stated that the message sent to the IPL franchises was only to facilitate logistics and travel bookings to Goa, and a formal communication is expected to be made sometime.
“The IPL 2027 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026 at ITC Grand Goa and auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026,” the BCCI whatsapp notes, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Overseas venues avoided as IPL pick domestic venue for mini auction
The last three IPL auctions (2024, 2025, and 2026) all took place in overseas venues as Dubai, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi hosted them.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board wanted to shift the venue back to India following overseas editions in recent cycles.
The BCCI also stated that managing a smaller event (IPL mini auction) is easier to host and manage domestically. However, finding a domestic venue was tough, as the IPL auctions generally take place in December, and it is the wedding season in India.
Several trades already happening before IPL mini auction
The IPL 2027 mini auction will take place in December, but even before that, several high-profile trade deals have taken place.
A couple of months back, Rishabh Pant, the former LSG captain, was traded back to his former IPL side, the Delhi Capitals. In return, LSG got Kuldeep Yadav, as the Indian spinner strengthened their spin department.
Recently, Delhi Capitals were once again involved in a trade deal as they acquired spinner Zeeshan Ansari from SRH, and the Orange Army traded pacer T Natarajan to add an Indian pacer to their ranks.
