Apparently, KL Rahul is not going anywhere. Contrary to the recent reports, the legendary Indian opener will remain with the Delhi Capitals franchise for next year’s IPL 2027 season.

The franchise itself pretty much confirmed a direct retention of Rahul amid rumors of the elegant top-order batter joining the KKR camp.

It is worth noting that the Delhi Capitals franchise has been already involved in one high-profile trade in recent weeks for the IPL 2027 next year, making rumors of a KL Rahul swap with the KKR more plausible.

KL Rahul is at “home” with Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals franchise might well have quashed all rumors of KL Rahul possibly joining the KKR for next year’s IPL 2027 season.

On Monday, September 7, i.e., at the height of Rahul’s KKR rumors, the Capitals franchise shared a 48-second tribute video for the elegant opening batter.

At one stage of the video, the 34-year-old says “I’m home” while wearing the Capitals jersey, thus expressing his love and support for the franchise even though he joined the team just last year for the IPL 2025 season.

What went wrong between KL Rahul and Delhi Capitals?

By the looks of the latest Delhi Capitals update, it appears that nothing went wrong between the senior Indian opener and the franchise.

However, several reports indicated that Rahul was involved in a verbal spat with team coach Hemang Badani during the IPL 2026 season. According to Sportstak, the Indian cricketer even threw coffee at Badani, and the incident expectedly did not go down well with the owners.

Another report indicated that the recent differences between the two parties was prompting the Delhi Capitals to trade KL Rahul off to the KKR, a franchise that is currently in the lookout for a captain.

Delhi Capitals co-owner backs Rahul for future seasons

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal also praised the prolific opening batter, calling him “one of the nicest guys” around and a selfless team player.

He even hinted out that the senior Indian cricketer will continue to remain with the Capitals as they have “unfinished business” together.

Parth Jindal said “one of the nicest guys I know and one who puts the team before himself always. We have unfinished business and will work hard together to make Delhi proud.”

KL Rahul record for Delhi Capitals

KL Rahul was roped in by the Delhi Capitals franchise for the IPL 2025 season last year after he parted ways with the LSG management.

In his maiden year with the Capitals, the senior Indian cricketer aggregated 539 runs in just 13 innings at a prolific average of 53.90 and with a strike rate of nearly 150.

The following year in the IPL 2026 season, Rahul was promoted up the order as Capitals’ opener, and he grabbed the opportunity by mounting 593 runs in 14 innings at an average of 45.61 and with a strike rate of 174.41.

Overall, in his two-season career for the Capitals so far, the elegant wicketkeeper-batter has minted 1,132 runs in 27 innings at an average of 49.21, having plundered two tons and eight fifties in the process.
