India A will play their final league match of the Tri-Nation A Series 2026 against Afghanistan A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla, on Wednesday (June 17).

The previous fixture vs SL-A was full of drama for the Tilak Varma-led Boys in Blue. The 50-over fixture was made spicier by a Super Over, but India A went on to lose it thanks to a tactical masterclass by the Islanders.

Moreover, the game became infamous for on-field spats between skipper Varma and the umpire, as well as between Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Vishen Halambage.

If not for the bowlers, Suryansh Shedge and Vipram Nigam had set the game beautifully with a century partnership for the eighth wicket.

Afghanistan A, on the other hand, have been playing a sensational brand of cricket. They have already beaten the tournament favourites, India A, although they lost to the Lankans on the DLS method.

The Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium has never been a high-scoring venue. As per the data, the average score batting first at this venue is just 216 runs. The average score drops to 174 runs in the second innings.

Although pacers have snapped the majority of the wickets in Dambulla, it is the spinners who set the game up. 63% of the wickets fallen at the venue belong to the faster bowlers, while the tweakers have taken around 37% of them.

Traditionally, run scoring has been tough at the venue, but the trend in the Tri-Nation A Series 2026 hasn't been the same. The last time these two teams met in this tournament, India A were able to amass 349/9 - the highest total in this Tri-Series.

Thus, don’t be surprised if the Boys in Blue replicate something similar, given the officials offer the same pitch used in the last IND A vs AFG A.

Conclusion

The team that wins the coin flip, would look to bowl first, because of overcast conditions. Hence, the Tilak Varma-led would look to do the same as it will be a do-or-die fixture for the boys in Blue.
