The Pakistan cricket team is currently engaged in a riveting Test series against Bangladesh. The high-voltage series is a part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, with both teams aiming to improve their ranks in the nine-team WTC points table.
Meanwhile, one of cricket's big three members plans to host Pakistan in a historic five-match Test series in the next WTC cycle. Led by Shan Masood, the Pakistani team has played two Tests in the WTC 2025-27 cycle, claiming the fifth spot in the points table.
ECB planning to amend home-away fixtures policy in next WTC cycle
The England men's team currently has a reciprocal policy of home and away Tests, which allows them to play the same number of Tests home and away against each team.
However, the report states that the ECB is going to amend its existing policy from the next WTC cycle. This move is aimed to serve two purposes simultaneously.
The Guardian reports that Test cricket continues to be the most-loved format by the English masses.

Therefore, the ECB is planning to conduct multiple extended Test series at home, while curtailing its away fixtures going forward.
The English board will compensate for the Test matches with additional white-ball fixtures in countries like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, where ODIs and T20Is generate significantly more revenue than the red-ball matches.
Pakistan in line for historic 5-match Test series in England
As the ECB plans to make the five-match Test series a norm in England, the Pakistan cricket team is reportedly one of the frontrunners to tour the country.
England, an integral member of cricket's big three alliance, which also comprises India and Australia, has reportedly reached out to the PCB for a five-match Test series.
According to The Guardian, the ECB has held talks with Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the PCB, as it plans to host either South Africa or Pakistan on home soil in a five-match Test series.
India and Australia are two prominent teams that frequently tour England for a five-match Test series in every four years.
In fact, the English team will kick-off its WTC 2027-29 campaign with a blockbuster Ashes series. This trend will witness a massive change if the ECB adds more teams to its bucket list for extended Test series at home.
The Pakistan cricket team played a five-match Test series in England for the last time in 1992. Therefore, if the ECB and the PCB successfully pull off the deal, Pakistan will visit England for a historic five-match series for the first time in more than 30 years.
When did Pakistan tour England for the last time?
The Pakistan cricket team toured England for a Test series in 2020. It was a three-match series, with the Old Trafford in Manchester and the Rose Bowl in Southampton conducting those fixtures.
Although the Pakistani contingent managed to draw both the games in Southampton, England clinched a thrilling victory at the Old Trafford to bag the series.
Overall, Pakistan have played 56 away Tests against England. They have registered 12 wins, lost 24 matches, while 20 games have concluded in a draw. Interestingly, Pakistan won the series by 2-1 the last time when they travelled to England for a five-match Test series.
