Brendon McCullum will continue to remain in England even though the national team recently registered T20I and ODI series wins over India at home. The England head coach, who has been sacked from his Test role, is not scheduled to coach the English team for the next couple of months.
Despite having a clear schedule, the former New Zealand captain has dedicated his time to catch the upcoming Men’s The Hundred 2026 season in England. The England white-ball coach also implied that he is up for scouting some exciting young talents in the tournament.
Brendon McCullum fulfils role as white-ball coach after Test sacking
Brendon McCullum has vowed to stick around in England for the upcoming men’s edition of The Hundred 2026 season in England. The former New Zealand captain and England’s current white-ball coach is intending to have a closer look at some of England’s premier limited-overs stars.

While speaking with the reporters, he said “I'll be around for the Hundred. I think it'd be great to see some of England's premier white-ball tournament. If you're white-ball coach, I think it's good to be around for that, seeing not just the guys who are in this squad, but also some of the next talent perform under the brightest lights of the Hundred tournament.”
He added “I think it'd be good to be able to see that up close over the next four weeks or so. I'll look to try and get around some of those games and see that, and hopefully we'll see some more talent.”
It is worth noting that McCullum will continue to remain as England’s T20I and ODI coach at least up until his contract expires with the ECB next year after the 2027 ICC Men’s World Cup.
However, if the cricketer-turned-coach decides to join a T20 franchise after his English stint, his time scouting talent during The Hundred 2026 is also likely to benefit him in the future.
When will Brendon McCullum resume England coaching?
With McCullum’s role currently narrowed to just England’s white-ball formats, the former cricketer is not slated to join the team management for at least a couple of months.
As of now, the England team is scheduled to take on Pakistan in a three-match Test series starting next month. The series is slated to commence just a couple of days after the conclusion of The Hundred 2026 in the country.
After the Test series, England will take on Sri Lanka in a series of three T20Is and three ODI matches starting September 15.
ECB to announce McCullum’s replacement before PAK series
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on the other hand, will be expected to announce the replacement of Brendon McCullum as England’s next Test coach. The legendary New Zealand batter was sacked as Test coach earlier this month after England lost its second successive Test series to Australia and New Zealand.
As of now, the ECB is actively looking at candidates, with the names of Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming, Richard Dawson, Mike Hesson, Tom Moody and Kumar Sangakkara remain in the mix.
