BCB Postpones Bilateral Series In Bangladesh, New Date To Be Announced

In a major development for Bangladesh cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to postpone Sri Lanka A’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh. 

The decision came during the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL 2025-26), which is currently keeping several top domestic and international players busy.

Sri Lanka A were expected to arrive in Bangladesh later this month for a full bilateral series against Bangladesh A. The tour included two four-day matches along with three one-day games. 

BCB Delays Sri Lanka A Tour Amid Busy Domestic Schedule

However, the packed domestic calendar forced the BCB to push the series to a later date. It is important to note that as of now, the BCB has not announced the revised dates.

“The A team’s arrival has been postponed because of the DPL. They also had requested us for a change in schedule. We will definitely reschedule it at some point,” BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees told The Daily Star.

DPL 2026 Continues To Take Center Stage

The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2026 is currently one of the biggest domestic tournaments in Bangladesh cricket. Notably, the competition started on May 4 and will continue until June 11. Moreover, the tournament features 12 club teams competing in List A format.

It is important to note that several Bangladesh international cricketers are participating in the league this season. Mahedi Hasan is representing Legends of Rupganj, while Jaker Ali is playing for Abahani Limited. In addition, Shoriful Islam has joined Brother Union Limited for the competition.

Zimbabwe HP Tour Confirmed For Next Month

Meanwhile, Shahriar Nafees also confirmed another important development involving Bangladesh cricket. A Zimbabwe squad will travel to Bangladesh next month to face the Bangladesh High Performance (HP) team.

The tour will feature two four-day matches along with three one-day games. The series is expected to provide valuable experience for young cricketers from both sides.

“They are coming here for three one-day matches and two four-day matches,” he said.

Bangladesh A And Emerging Teams Set For South Africa Tour

Apart from the home fixtures, Bangladesh cricket teams are also preparing for an important overseas tour later this year. Bangladesh’s men’s and women’s Emerging teams, together with the Bangladesh A men’s squad, will travel to South Africa during July and August.

During the tour, Bangladesh A will play against South Africa A in two four-day matches and three one-day matches. 

According to the schedule released by Cricket South Africa, the first four-day game will take place in Pretoria from August 23 to 26. Furthermore, the second match will be held in Potchefstroom from August 30 to September 2.

The one-day matches are scheduled on September 6, 9 and 12 in Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Potchefstroom respectively.

At the same time, the Bangladesh Emerging team will participate in a tri-series against South Africa Emerging and USSA from July 30 to August 12. Following the tri-series, they will also play a two-match four-day series in Potchefstroom and Benoni.

Mohammedan Club Dominates DPL 2026 Standings

Meanwhile, Mohammedan Club has made a brilliant start in the Dhaka Premier League 2026 season. The club currently sits at the top of the points table with four wins in four matches and an impressive net run rate of +2.737.

Prime Bank Cricket Club is placed second with four victories as well, although their net run rate stands at +1.955.
