On Wednesday, Virat Kohli returned to top form with a brilliant unbeaten century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). 

After getting out for zero in the previous two matches, Kohli answered his critics with a match-winning knock. His 105 runs from 60 balls helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) chase down a target of more than 190 runs in Raipur.

KKR Set A Daunting Target

Batting first, KKR young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi played an impressive innings of 71 runs for Kolkata. In addition, Rinku Singh added an unbeaten 49 runs and helped KKR reach 192/4.

During the chase, Kohli played with confidence and control. His unbeaten 105 included 11 fours and three sixes. Moreover, he scored at a strike rate of 175 and guided RCB to victory with five balls remaining.

Virat Kohli Creates History in T20 Cricket

During this innings, Virat Kohli achieved several major milestones. Notably, he completed 14,000 runs in T20 cricket and became the fastest player to reach this mark.

He achieved the feat in only 409 innings across international matches, domestic games, and franchise cricket. Furthermore, he became the first Indian batter to cross 14,000 runs in the T20 format.

Most Hundreds in T20 Cricket

It is important to mention that Kohli’s century was his 10th hundred in T20 cricket. As a result, he became the Indian batter with the highest number of centuries in this format. In addition, he joined an elite list of players with 10 or more T20 hundreds.

It is important to note that Virat Kohli also became the most-capped player in IPL history. He played his 279th IPL match and moved ahead of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, who have played 278 matches each.

In addition, his unbeaten 105 became the highest individual score in T20 matches played in Raipur. The earlier record belonged to Kane Williamson, who had scored 101 runs.

Most Hundreds While Chasing in IPL

Kohli also equalled another important IPL record.

Furthermore, Kohli became the first player in IPL history to score a century after two consecutive ducks. He also became only the fifth player in overall T20 cricket to achieve this rare record.

Notably, Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal added a 92-run partnership during the chase. This became their 10th partnership of 50 or more runs in the IPL, which is also a record.

After this brilliant innings, Kohli moved closer to the top players in the Player of the Match awards list.

Virat Kohli Back In Orange Cap Race

RCB won the match by six wickets and returned to the top of the points table. At the same time, Kohli moved closer in the Orange Cap race. He now has 484 runs in 12 innings with an average of 53.77 and a strike rate of 165.75. 

Currently, Heinrich Klaasen leads the list with 508 runs, while Sai Sudharsan follows with 501 runs.
