Bangladesh A Women Build Through Captain Fahima
Bangladesh’s innings began cautiously after being put in to bat. The early overs were steady but lacked momentum, with Ishma Tanjim and Shamima Sultana trying to settle in.
Shamima struck a couple of boundaries but fell for 13 in the fourth over. Ishma followed soon after, trapped lbw for 12, leaving Bangladesh at 39/2.
Sarmin Sultana attempted to rebuild, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. At 44/3 after 10 overs, Bangladesh were under pressure.
The innings got some respite with the arrival of captain Fahima Khatun, who held the fort in the middle order. Fahima struck the ball hard, taking full advantage of loose balls to increase the run rate.
Fahima received some initial support from Lata Mondal and Farjana Easmin, but their dismissals came quickly, leaving Fahima to do the bulk of the work. She remained unscathed, scoring 40 off 32 balls with five boundaries.
Her calm knock ensured Bangladesh crossed the 100-run mark, eventually finishing at 110/8, a total that looked competitive on a slow surface.
Pakistan’s bowlers kept things tight. Hafsa Khalid was the pick with two wickets, while Waheeda Akhtar, Momina Riasat, Anosha Nasir, and Omaima Sohail chipped in with one each.
The disciplined bowling effort suggested Pakistan would fancy their chances in the chase.
Early Collapse Derails Pakistan’s Chase
Pakistan’s response never really got going. Right from the start, the Bangladeshi bowlers were relentless with their attack. Fariha Trisna began the proceedings with a quick wicket, removing Eman Naseer for 4.
Not long after, Huraina Sajjad was out for a duck, leaving Pakistan at 9/2 in the fourth over. Shawaal Zulfiqar attempted a counterattack, hitting a six in her 14-run innings, but frequent wickets meant that no substantial partnership was formed.
At 24/3, Pakistan were already struggling, and when Omaima Sohail was dismissed shortly after, the chase began to unravel quickly.
Bangladesh’s bowlers were disciplined and accurate. Captain Fahima Khatun once again led from the front, taking two crucial wickets while giving away only six runs in her three overs.
Sanjida Akter Meghla bowled a match-winning spell, taking 3 for 6 in 3.4 overs and shattering the lower order.
Pakistan showed some signs of resistance through Yusra Amir and Hafsa Khalid, but the required rate kept rising.
Excellent fielding and two vital run-outs further damaged their chances. Wickets kept falling, and the innings came to an end at 56 all out in the 17th over.
In the end, what seemed like a small total turned out to be more than sufficient. Bangladesh’s excellent bowling, excellent fielding, and their captain’s calm innings added up to a resounding 54-run victory.
