The much-awaited India tour of Bangladesh 2026 has received another positive update. Bangladesh's State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, has expressed confidence that India might visit Bangladesh in September 2026 as scheduled.

The white-ball series, consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is, was originally planned for 2025. However, it was later postponed to September 2026 following diplomatic concerns and scheduling issues.

Bangladesh Government Shares Fresh Update On India Tour Of Bangladesh 2026

Speaking to reporters in Dhaka, Aminul Haque said the current Bangladesh government considers sports diplomacy an important tool for strengthening international relations.

The minister revealed that discussions have already taken place with the Indian Embassy regarding the upcoming tour. He added that all parties are now waiting for the Indian team to arrive in Bangladesh in September.

"The current government is giving utmost importance to sports diplomacy. And since cricket is a place of prestige for us, since cricket has a very strong position in our world cricket…we have already spoken to the Indian Embassy, they have also spoken to us and they are all waiting for India to come to Bangladesh in September," Aminul told reporters at Dhaka on Tuesday.

"After arriving, I think that we will overcome the tension that was there (between the two countries) over a small incident in the past and hopefully our sports diplomacy, our communication, our movement, everything will continue with our neighbouring country," he added.

What Led To Delay Of The India Tour Of Bangladesh 2026?

The India tour was initially scheduled for August 2025; however, both the BCCI and the BCB later agreed to move the series to September 2026.

One of the major reasons behind the decision was the crowded international cricket calendar. Both teams had several commitments, making it difficult to find a suitable window for the series.

Apart from scheduling challenges, political and diplomatic issues also created uncertainty around the tour.

The situation became more complicated when Bangladesh decided not to participate in its scheduled matches in India during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 because of security concerns.

What Has The BCB Done To Ensure The Tour Takes Place?

Over the past few months, the BCB has taken several steps to keep preparations for the India series on track.

Earlier this month, the BCB started the process of selling the television and media rights for the India tour, indicating that planning for the series was moving ahead. This was seen as a strong sign that Bangladesh remained committed to hosting India.

Another positive development came when India's tour of Sri Lanka 2026 in August was announced without any T20Is. This created a clearer window in the calendar, making it easier for India to travel to Bangladesh immediately afterwards.

The BCB has also assured that it is ready to strengthen security arrangements for the Indian team if necessary.

However, questions resurfaced after the BCB temporarily paused the media rights sale process despite inviting bids earlier. With so many developments coming recently, it would be interesting to see whether and when India will travel to Bangladesh.
