India Women recorded a historic 2-1 series win in the away T20Is over Australia in their recently-concluded three-match rubber. The outcome has now sparked a welcome surge in rankings for several Indian players as they build momentum and belief ahead of the upcoming 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Fast bowler Arundhati Reddy and young left-arm spinner Shree Charani became the biggest benefactors of India’s latest rankings boost, with Jemimah Rodrigues also finding some rhythm on the ICC charts.

Arundhati Reddy and Shree Charani go big in ICC rankings

Indian fast bowler Arundhati Reddy obtained a new career-high rating following the latest ICC rankings update. The cricketer blazed past the likes of Amelia Kerr, Megan Schutt among others to gain five rungs and occupy 11th position in ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings.

With her latest insurgence, Reddy is now the third highest ranked Indian cricketer on the ICC bowling charts behind Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh Thakur.

The 28-year-old speedster picked up eight wickets in India’s three-match T20I series against Australia Women earlier this month. In the first T20I of the series in Sydney, Arundhati Reddy picked up match-winning figures of 4-22, which included the prized scalps of Ellyse Perry, Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Wareham.

Her teammate Shree Charani made an even bigger leap on the ICC T20I bowling rankings by jumping 11 spots to occupy 26th position with 576 rating points. The young left-arm spinner picked up five wickets in three innings to finish the series against Australia as India’s second highest wicket-taker behind Reddy.

Incidentally, the collective bowling heroics of Charani and Reddy consigned Australia to its first series defeat at home in any format since 2017.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma retain spots, Rodrigues storms into top 10

Even though vice-captain Smriti Mandhana also played a hand in India’s historic T20I series win, the legendary opener failed to climb higher on the rankings. She did, however, managed to retain her third spot on the latest ICC rankings with 770 rating points. It is worth noting that Smriti Mandhana bludgeoned a match-winning 82 against Australia in the decider at Adelaide.

Her opening partner Shafali Verma also retained her sixth spot on the ICC rankings for women’s T20I batters, despite aggregating just 57 runs in three innings of the series. Jemimah Rodrigues gained a rung to storm into the top 10 charts after cracking a decisive 59 off 46 balls in the third T20I last weekend.

Deepti Sharma slips among bowlers and all-rounders

Seasoned Indian cricketer Deepti Sharma slipped in two different categories following her underwhelming series against Australia. Scoring just three runs in three innings and picking up a solitary wicket at an expensive average of over a 100, the 28-year-old lost two rungs on the ICC T20I bowling charts and another in the latest all-rounder’s rankings.

Among bowlers, Deepti Sharma was surpassed by Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, and among all-rounders, she was bested by Ashleigh Gardner.

With the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup drawing closer, India’s upward movement on the rankings, barring Deepti, could not have come at a better time. The recent surge not only reflects individual excellence but also strengthens the team’s collective morale while heading into the showpiece event in England in June this year.
