The Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) has once again come under controversy. Notably, a serious issue related to ticket selling has now created trouble for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its regional body, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA).

The matter came into the spotlight during the IPL clash between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, May 8 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Notably, KKR defeated Delhi Capitals by eight wickets. The thee-time IPL champions produced a clinical all-round performance, comfortably chasing down Delhi’s target while significantly improving their NRR in the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs.

Delhi Police Recover Illegal IPL Passes

However, the discussion quickly shifted away from cricket after Delhi Police conducted a raid before the match.

Delhi Police carried out a raid at around 3 PM at a petrol pump located near Arun Jaitley Stadium. During the operation, officials recovered 34 complimentary passes along with 20 prize tickets.

According to Dainik Jagran, IPL tickets were allegedly being sold illegally from the petrol pump for a long time.

Furthermore, police sources claimed that some employees linked with DDCA could be involved in the racket. This development has raised major concerns for cricket fans and officials connected with the BCCI.

It is important to note that Arun Jaitley Stadium has remained the home ground of Delhi Capitals since the beginning of the IPL. Moreover, Delhi is hosting seven home matches this season.

The DDCA-linked ticket racket has now become a major issue in Indian cricket. It is important to note that there has been no official statement from either the BCCI or DDCA so far.

DDCA Name Appears In Racket

Notably, this is reportedly the first time that the name of a cricket association has surfaced in an IPL ticket-selling racket. Earlier incidents mainly involved outsiders or stadium workers.

At the start of IPL 2026, another ticket-selling controversy took place during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In that case, a kitchen staff member named Chandrashekhar allegedly sold tickets at very high prices ranging between ₹15,000 and ₹19,000. Reports stated that more than 180 tickets were sold illegally. Chandrashekhar worked at Sri Lakshmi Canteen, which operates inside the stadium premises.

Fake IPL Tickets Created Using ChatGPT

Meanwhile, another shocking case emerged from Lucknow. According to reports, an interstate gang allegedly created fake IPL tickets with the help of ChatGPT and graphic design software.

Police arrested four accused outside Ekana Cricket Stadium. Investigators revealed that the gang collected images of original IPL tickets from social media platforms. After that, the tickets were redesigned using CorelDRAW software so they looked genuine.

The fake tickets were later sold to cricket fans near the stadium. As a result, multiple ticket scams during IPL 2026 have increased pressure on the BCCI to improve security and monitoring systems.
