The LSG vs KKR IPL 2026 match has been hit by a huge controversy. Notably, in the 5th over of the first innings, KKR batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi became the first batter in IPL 2026 to be given out for obstructing the field.

Following the incident, a huge drama erupted on field as KKR camp was unhappy with the decision. Further, Angkrish Raghuvanshi too made his intentions clear to the umpire and left the field in anger.

Huge Controversy Erupts In LSG vs KKR Match

On the last ball of the 5th over, Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a shot  at mid-on, straight to Mohammed Shami. The right-handed batter tried to steal a single, but aborted the run after reaching half down the track.

As soon as Raghuvanshi took a turn to return to his crease, the throw hit his leg, following which Rishabh Pant appealed for obstructing the field. The LSG captain argued that the KKR batter had changed his trajectory and asked for 3rd umpire's opinion. 

Eventually, the 3rd umpire agreed to LSG's appeal and gave Angkrish Raghuvanshi out. The youngster was furious and even explained his case to the umpire.

While returning to the pavillion, Angkrish Raghuvanshi slammed his bat and also his helmet in anger as he was unhappy with 3rd umpire's decision.

KKR Coaching Staff Argues With Umpire

KKR camp was also unhappy with the decision. KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar walked out of the dug-out and argued with the fourth official over 3rd umpire's decision. Not just Nayar, but Shane Watson, Dwaye Bravo were all unhappy with Raghuvanshi's dismissal.

Notably, Raghuvanshi has become the fourth player in IPL history to be given out for obstructing the field. The KKR batter returned to the field after scoring 9 (8), which featured a solitary four.

IPL Rules Explained For Obstructing The Field

Obstructing the Field' is governed by Law 37 of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). It states that a batter is out if they 'wilfully attempt to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action.'

Changing Course: Significantly altering their running path to block a throw aimed at the stumps

Physical Interference: Using their body or bat to intercept a ball that would otherwise result in a run-out or catch.
