That brings us to the end of our coverage for this opening clash. The action now moves to the crucial second WODI of the series, scheduled for 27th September at 1:00 PM IST, where Zimbabwe will look to bounce back and the West Indies will aim to seal the series. This is Nikhil, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Mohammad Anab, Abhishek Sharma and Saptak Sanyal, alongside our expert scorer-analyst Sahil Khan and statistician Aman. Thank you for joining us, and cheers for now!
Zimbabwe Women, to their credit, showed immense grit and refused to go down without a fight. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, they battled their way to a respectable 200. The undisputed star of their chase was Modester Mupachikwa, who played a lone, valiant hand with a brilliant 86. While her fighting spirit kept the home fans roaring, the lack of substantial partnerships at the other end meant the target remained well out of reach, ensuring a convincing and well-deserved win for the visitors.
A commanding performance from the West Indies Women sees them claim a comprehensive 99-run victory in this opening WODI. The foundation of their success was a sensational, powerhouse innings from the skipper, Hayley Matthews, whose magnificent 182 propelled the visitors to a formidable total of 299. The Zimbabwean bowlers found answers hard to come by as the Windies captain took the game away from them, setting up a chase that was always going to demand something extraordinary from the hosts.

Player of the Match: Hayley Matthews
7:47 PM IST and 4:17 PM Local Time: West Indies Women have started the three-match WODI series against Zimbabwe Women with a victory by a huge margin of 99 runs. Hayley Kristen Matthews' innings was the fulcrum of the victory, while the team effort in bowling gave the visitors the finishing touch. Modester Mupachikwa fought hard, but got no adequate support from the other end and her team got bundled out for exactly 200.
West Indies Women won the toss and opted to bat first. Skipper Hayley Kristen Matthews took the charge from the very first ball and got a perfect partner in Realeanna Grimmond. They together boarded 128 for the opening stand where Grimmond contributed 53 runs. After her departure, it was a one woman show by the West Indies skipper Hayley. Stafanie Taylor (2), Shemaine Campbelle (13), Chinelle Henry (19)- nobody stood tall for their team and Hayley had to bludgeon the Chevrons alone.
She hit 26 fours and a couple of maximums on her way to score a fantastic 182 off 156 balls. But the lack of support from the other end did not help West Indies much and they finished with 299/6 on the board. 350 was on the cards, but that just did not happen. After Hayley's dismissal, Jannillea Glasgow, Jahzara Claxton and Aaliyah Alleyne were there, who are known for their big hitting prowess, but could add only five off the last five deliveries.
