Shaheen Afridi unlocked a major milestone against Bangladesh during Pakistan’s series-opening first Test in Mirpur. Bowling on a batting-friendly surface, the speedster picked up four wickets to complete 400 wickets in his international career.
In doing so, Afridi became Pakistan’s only ninth bowler in history to scale the landmark figure. Following Shaheen’s latest milestone, here is a look at 10 Pakistan bowlers with most wickets to their names.
10. Abdul Razzaq – 388 wickets
Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq claimed 388 wickets in his 17-year international career. The cricketer picked up 269 of those in ODI matches, and another 100 in just 46 Tests for Pakistan.
The cricketer nabbed another 20 scalps in 22 T20I innings at an average of 19.75. Overall, Razzaq picked one additional wicket, albeit for Asia XI to hold a collection of 389 sticks.
9. Shaheen Afridi – 400 wickets
Shaheen Afridi burst onto the national scene in mid-2018 at an age of just 18. Since then, the ‘premium’ Pakistan fast bowler has snared 400 international wickets. He is the only bowler in Pakistan history to have bagged 100 or more wickets in each format of the game.
8. Umar Gul – 427 wickets
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup winning cricketer Umar Gul collected 427 wickets in his international career between the years 2003 and 2016. The legendary fast bowler claimed 163 of those in Tests, 179 in ODIs and another 85 in T20I matches.

Gul was the leading wicket-taker in each of the first two editions of the T20 World Cup.
7. Shoaib Akhtar – 438 wickets
Legendary Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar troubled the best of batters with sheer pace and intimidation. In just 46 Tests, he picked up 178 wickets at an impressive average of 25.69. In 162 ODI innings, Akhtar bagged another 247 sticks.
While he never truly made T20I cricket his own, the fast bowler still picked up 19 wickets in 15 innings during the fag end of his competitive career.
6. Saeed Ajmal – 447 wickets
In just his seven-year international career, spin ace Saeed Ajmal picked up 447 international wickets in 242 innings. The off-spinner nabbed 178 wickets in just 67 Test innings, 184 wickets in just 112 ODI innings and 85 T20I scalps in just 63 innings. Overall, Ajmal averaged 23.93 with the ball.
5. Saqlain Mushtaq – 496 wickets
Legendary Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq announced his retirement after collecting 496 international wickets in just nine years. One of Pakistan’s greatest spin bowler, he snared 288 ODI scalps in just 165 innings and another 208 in 86 Test innings.
Unlike many others on this list, Mushtaq retired way before the introduction of T20I cricket.
4. Shahid Afridi – 538 wickets
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi remains the only spin bowler from his country with over 500 wickets to his name. He is also Pakistan’s most successful ODI spinner with 393 wickets, and third most successful T20I spin bowler of the nation with 97 wickets in 96 innings.
3. Imran Khan – 544 wickets
Pakistan’s lone ODI World Cup winning captain Imran Khan secured 544 international wickets in 295 innings between the years 1971 and 1992. Vastly more successful in Tests, the legendary all-rounder claimed 362 wickets in just 142 innings spanning 88 matches.
In 153 ODI innings, the speedster nabbed 182 sticks at 26.61.
2. Waqar Younis – 789 wickets
Playing alongside Wasim Akram throughout his career, Waqar Younis made sure that opposition batters never breathed easy at either end of the crease. He played his final international match before turning 32, and had secured a staggering haul of 789 wickets before announcing retirement.
His collection of 373 Test wickets and 416 ODI wickets stand next only to Wasim Akram.
1. Wasim Akram – 916 wickets
One of the greatest bowlers to have played the game, Wasim Akram sits on an illustrious pile of 916 international wickets. He remains the only fast bowler in ODI history to have claimed over 500 wickets to his name, even though it has been over two decades since his retirement from the format.
Akram picked another 414 wickets in Tests to remain Pakistan’s most successful bowler.
