The mega celebration of cricket is just days away, as the schedule of the IPL 2026 has been released already. The mammoth league have released just a two-week schedule so far, given the election set to take place in several states.
While the schedule rolls out in phases, the rivalries intensify every day. With 10 teams ready to go all out for the war and Royal Challengers Bengaluru prepared to defend their title, let’s take a look at some of the biggest rivalries that exist ahead of the commencement of IPL 2026.
1) MI vs CSK

The battle of the big daddies, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, is always an exciting affair to watch. Both franchises have won the title for 5 times and are heavyweights of the game. The El Clásico of Cricket is defined by the rivalry between them, alongside the close contests with thrilling finishes.
Notably, the battle between these two has been intense, with the Mumbai Indians managing to win three out of the four Indian Premier League finals played between the two sides. Not to forget that the star-studded lineups underline the stakes and make this rivalry even more watch-worthy.
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have played 41 IPL matches against each other, with the Hardik Pandya-led side currently leading the rivalry with 22 wins over Rajat Patidar’s team.
2) RCB vs KKR

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Kolkata Knight Riders rivalry is one that emerged out of a revenge battle and is often called ‘El Primero’, since the clash started with the very first IPL match in 2008, where Brendon McCullum, playing for KKR, smashed an unbeaten 158 to humiliate the Virat Kohli-featuring team by 140 runs.
Including instances of high-scoring thrillers and shocking collapses, where KKR once bowled out RCB for just 49 runs, the lowest-ever total in IPL history, the rivalry has produced several memorable moments.
Conversely, KKR have also often chased down high totals against RCB to further dominate a fan base that is known for its aggressive celebrations.
The rivalry has resulted in a head-to-head record that sees KKR dominate by winning 21 matches out of the 36 they have played against each other. Furthermore, the top line-ups have generated significant interest over the years for fan bases to watch the match.
Names like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle have decorated the rivalry between these two teams, while KKR bowling maestros like Sunil Narine, who is also the highest wicket-taker, have further made the affair an interesting one to watch.

The Southern derby involving Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is also a spicy one to watch, mainly because of the star-studded rivalry between CSK's MS Dhoni and RCB's Virat Kohli.
The rivalry has also intensified after earlier Indian Premier League encounters, where back in the 2011 IPL Final, CSK bagged the title by defeating RCB. In fact, the fan bases make the affair more interesting to watch.
Both the Yellow Camp and the Bengaluru Army have been super passionate about the game as well as their rivalries. Hence, the nail-biting contests will always be ones to watch out for, where Chennai Super Kings have largely dominated the head-to-head matchups.
Facing each other, CSK have won 22 games out of the 36 they have played against RCB, with Matheesha Pathirana, Noor Ahmad, and Josh Hazlewood dominating the matchup with their bowling attack. Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Jacob Bethell rule the batting department in this heavyweight battle.

The Chennai Super Kings versus Kolkata Knight Riders match-up has also been largely dominated by the Yellow Camp, where they have won 21 games out of the 33 they have played. The rivalry exploded in the 2012 IPL Final when Kolkata beat an ever-dominant CSK to win their maiden title. It was a bittersweet realization for MS Dhoni's side.
However, they got their sweet revenge in the 2021 IPL Final by dominating the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned team. This time as well, the rivalry is set to get another spark, with players like Shivam Dube, Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane, and Dewald Brevis starring in the batting lineup.
With the ball, though, this time around Matheesha Pathirana will be on Kolkata's side, while Noor Ahmad will continue being the spin king for Chennai, with Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine slowing down some serious punches from Chennai batters.
5) SRH vs RCB

While not among the mega popular ones, this seemingly non-glamorous rivalry between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore speaks of many pains.
The rivalry between the two teams intensified after SRH defeated RCB in a high-scoring IPL Final in 2016 at Bengaluru to win their maiden title. The win, led by David Warner, left the fans at Chinnaswamy Stadium devastated, since Hyderabad always had the knack of spoiling the party for RCB in crucial playoff games.
In head-to-head encounters as well, both teams share a tight tally. Out of the 25 matches they have played against each other, RCB have won 11 while SRH hold the edge with 13 wins, while one match ended in a tie.
The recent rivalry, though, will be marked by the batting players of RCB's Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli, and Hyderabad's Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma, the firebrand duo known to destroy the powerplay overs.
The bowling department, however, will be taken over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Lungi Ngidi, among others, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will have Pat Cummins, Eshan Malinga, Harshal Patel, among others, to lead the bowling attack.
