There have been some memorable catches in the tournament’s history that changed the entire course of the game or even turned the tables completely in favour of the fielding side. 

All teams have had brilliant catchers in their mix, who never failed the expectations in the crucial moments. That said, here’s a look at the 5 players with the most catches in T20 World Cup history. 

5 Players with most catches in T20 World Cup history 

David Warner (Australia) - 25 catches 

Australia's former World T20 champion batter, David Warner, was also the most successful catcher in the tournament’s history. He featured in 41 games for his side from his World T20 debut in 2009 to his last appearance in the 2024 edition. 

In these appearances, Warner registered 25 successful catches to his name in 41 innings, with a catches per innings rate of 0.609. He has a record of ‘three catches in a single match’ to his name. He ranks first in the list of players with the most catches in the T20 World Cup history. 

AB de Villiers (South Africa) - 23 catches 

The former Proteas skipper and batting great, AB de Villiers, was known for his sensational fielding across the ground. De Villiers was known for keeping the excitement alive in the game with his electrifying fielding and spectacular catches. 

In his 30-game World T20 career over nine years from 2007 to 2016, De Villiers took 23 catches, including the maximum number of ‘three catches in a match’. He is second among the top five players with the most catches in the tournament’s history. 

Glenn Maxwell (Australia) - 23 Catches 

The veteran Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, has been actively playing in the T20 World Cups for his side since the 2012 edition. He was known for his brilliant athleticism, restricting runs and taking game-changing catches in the crucial moments. 

Maxwell has 23 successful catches to his name, alongside registering a maximum number of ‘four catches in a match’, which is the joint-highest number of catches taken by a player in World T20 history. Besides that, he is placed at the third spot in the list of players with the most catches in the T20 World Cup history. 

Rohit Sharma (India) - 21 Catches 

India’s former World T20 champion skipper, Rohit Sharma, also ended his T20 World Cup career as one of the most successful catches in the tournament’s history. He took a total of 21 catches in 47 World T20 games he played from the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007 to his last appearance in 2024. 

Rohit ranks fourth in the list of players with the most catches in the tournament’s history. Rohit also had the record of taking a maximum of ‘three catches in a single match’. Besides that, Rohit was the only Indian player to be part of the World Cup-winning team twice, in 2007 and 2014. 

Martin Guptill (New Zealand) - 19 Catches 

The former New Zealand batter, Martin Guptill, was also a key element in their fielding excellence. He featured for his side in 28 World T20 games from the 2009 edition in England to 2021 in the UAE. 

Guptill’s World T20 career ended with ‘19 catches’ to his name, including the highest of ‘three catches in a match’. He is in the fifth spot on the list of the players with the highest number of catches in the T20 World Cup history.
