The business end of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will get underway on Tuesday, with Australia taking on the West Indies in the first semi-final of the ongoing edition at Kennington Oval, London.
Before the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, there were nine editions of the prestigious event, which began in 2009. Of them, Australia won six, stamping their authority like no other.
However, the West Indies, the seventh-ranked T20I team in ICC rankings for women, entered the knockout stage against all odds. They defeated New Zealand, the defending champions, in the group stage, which eventually helped secure a place in the semi-finals.
Even though Australia are stacked with superior performers, there are a few from the West Indies who can take the world by storm on their days. In fact, they have the potential to shock the world by staging the biggest upset of the Women’s T20 World Cup history – defeating Australia in the knockouts.
Who can be the most suitable candidates for the miraculous job? Let’s dig down a little to find out.
List Of WI Players Who Can Upset Australia In Women’s T20 World Cup Semi-Final
Hayley Matthews
One of the finest all-rounders in women’s cricket, Hayley Matthews has the capability to win the match both with bat and ball on her day. More often than not, she does exactly that while playing for Mumbai Indians in WPL.
| Criterion | Vs Australia |
| Matches | 13 |
| Runs | 507 |
| Average | 46.09 |
| Strike Rate | 145.68 |
[Hayley Matthews T20I Stats]
Performing against Australia women is extremely difficult, and Matthews did so gracefully one after another in T20Is. The above mentioned number is way better than his overall career stats, suggesting that she had a knack for setting the stage on fire when required the most.
Even with the ball, Matthews has been incredibly consistent against Australia, claiming 15 wickets in 13 matches at an economy rate of 7.53. No wonder she is the West Indies go-to person whenever an emergency arrives, and this is the moment tailor-made for her.
Chinelle Henry
Delhi Capitals broke the bank to sign Chinelle Henry for WPL 2026, giving her a whopping INR 1.30 Crore contract. More importantly, she has been impressive, particularly this year, even though her numbers against Australia could improve over time.
| Criterion | 2026 | Overall |
| Innings | 9 | 65 |
| Runs | 168 | 690 |
| Average | 42 | 18.15 |
| Strike Rate | 140 | 100.43 |
[Chinelle Henry T20I Stats]
Talking about her impact with the ball, Henry took eight wickets in 11 T20I innings in 2026, maintaining an economy rate of 6.83. She has also picked up six wickets in eight T20Is against Australia, conceding 7.07 runs an over.
Stafanie Taylor
One of the old horses from the West Indies, Stafanie Taylor could rise above all against Australia to take her side to a historic triumph. And there could not be any more fairytale better than that if the 35-year-old enjoys the world at her feet while facing Australia.
| Criterion | Vs Australia |
| Innings | 18 |
| Runs | 504 |
| Average | 31.5 |
[Stafanie Taylor T20I Stats]
Taylor averages 34.28 in T20Is this year, having made 240 runs after 11 innings. She has an excellent T20I record in England as well, with 370 runs in 16 matches at an average of 37.
Apart from them, Deandra Dottin is there as well, while Shemaine Campbelle and Aaliyah Alleyne have been superb in this ongoing competition, and can wreak havoc in their respective departments.
