One of the major names who was not in the West Indies squad for the India ODIs was Shimron Hetmyer. The swashbuckling batter, who was in extraordinary form in the CPL 2026 for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, failed to make the cut.
With a strike rate of 197.31, Hetmyer made 367 runs in 12 innings in CPL 2026, including a 45-ball 102 in the Qualifier 2. Even during the New Zealand vs West Indies ODIs in July, Hetmyer made a 64-ball 69 and a 28-ball 26 in his two opportunities to shine.

Shimron Hetmyer's Record In India In ODIs
In his first ODI against India, in Guwahati in 2018, Shimron Hetmyer played a flamboyant 78-ball 106 to announce his arrival. He followed it with a 64-ball 94 in Visakhapatnam, giving the hint that he would emerge as one of the most destructive batters in the world in the times to come.
In 2019, the year when Hetmyer last came to India for an ODI match, he made his mark. He smashed a 106-ball 139 with 11 fours and seven sixes in Chennai.

Notably, there were three ODIs for Hetmyer which came in India, but the opposition were different: Afghanistan.

Conclusion
Hetmyer had an excellent start to his ODI career, scoring five centuries and four fifties in his first three years. However, his numbers began to decline after that, and thus he lost his place among West Indies regulars in the middle order.

Even though the likes of Roston Chase, Amir Jangoo, Sherfane Rutherford and Keacy Carty are in the West Indies squad for India ODIs, a place for Hetmyer would boost the West Indies by giving them someone who can turn the tide out of nowhere, with proven experience of doing that in the past.
However, they missed the trick by giving him a rest altogether. He will be back in action when West Indies and India will begin the five-match T20I series.
