Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will gear up for another exciting campaign as the IPL 2026 approaches. After ending an 18-year wait for the trophy last season, RCB will now aim to defend their crown in the upcoming season.

The team created history by winning their maiden IPL title under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar. The victory ended years of heartbreak for the franchise and its passionate fan base.

With the confidence of being defending champions, RCB will begin their IPL 2026 campaign on the opening day of the tournament at their home venue, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28.

Following their successful campaign last year, RCB's management decided to maintain stability in the squad. The franchise retained 17 players ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru made several notable signings during the auction; among the key acquisitions were Venkatesh Iyer, Jacob Duffy, and Jordan Cox.

Apart from these established players, the franchise also invested in young Indian talent to strengthen its bench strength. Players such as Mangesh Yadav, Satvik Deswal, Vicky Ostwal, Vihaan Malhotra, and Kanishk Chouhan were added to the squad.

As RCB gear up for IPL 2026, here we take a look at three potential X-factors who could help the team to win consecutive titles.

1. Virat Kohli

  • Virat Kohli is not just a player for RCB; he is an emotion for the franchise and its fans. Kohli played a central role in the title-winning campaign last year. He made 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75 with a strike rate of 144.71 and finished as the team's highest run-getter.
  • Virat Kohli’s opening partnership with Phil Salt was one of the most reliable combinations for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The duo regularly gave the team strong starts, allowing the middle order to play with freedom later in the innings.
  • Virat Kohli has also been in exceptional form recently. In the recent ODI series against the New Zealand. The star batter scored 240 runs in three innings, maintaining an impressive average of 80.00 and a strike rate of 105.26.

  • His form was even more extraordinary in the ODI series against the South Africa, where he made 302 runs in three innings at an average of 151.
  • If he maintains his current form, Virat Kohli could once again become the backbone of RCB’s batting lineup and play a decisive role in their quest for back-to-back IPL titles.

2. Krunal Pandya

  • One of the key reasons behind RCB’s successful 2025 season was the improvement in their bowling attack. Traditionally known for their powerful batting lineup, the franchise made a strong effort to strengthen their bowling department, and Krunal Pandya proved to be a vital addition.
  • The experienced all-rounder delivered an excellent debut season for RCB. Known for his accuracy and ability to control the middle overs, Krunal finished the 2025 IPL season with 17 wickets at an economy rate of 8.23.
  • His impact was most evident in the 2025 IPL final against Punjab Kings, where he delivered a match-winning spell of 2/17.

  • In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 season for Baroda, he scored 321 runs at an impressive average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 106.64 in seven innings. With the ball, he picked up six wickets while maintaining a superb economy rate of 5.38.
  • If he continues to deliver economical spells and contribute handy runs lower down the order, Krunal Pandya could once again become one of the most vital players in RCB’s campaign for the 2026 season.

3.Bhuvneshwar Kumar

  • While the team's batting often grabs the headlines, their bowling unit will play a decisive role in their title defence. In this department, veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to carry significant responsibility.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar was one of the standout performers for Bengaluru-based franchise during their championship-winning campaign in 2025. The experienced swing bowler finished the season with 17 wicket in 14 matches at an economy rate of 9.28.
  • However, his importance for the 2026 season has grown even more due to injury concerns surrounding Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood. Reports suggest that Hazlewood has still not fully recovered from the injury he suffered before the The Ashes 2026.
  • With Hazlewood’s participation uncertain, Bhuvneshwar will likely take on the role of leading the pace attack for Bengaluru in IPL 2026.
