A towering spinner with the stature of a fast bowler, Sulieman Benn is a former West Indies cricketer. A bowling all-rounder, Benn impressed with his left-arm orthodox since breaking into the one-day international team in April 2008. A useful batsman, Benn was a fairly regular member of the West Indies line-up between 2008 and 2011.
After excelling in the 2007-08 ‘Carib Beer Cup’ West Indies came calling for Benn and he made his Test debut against Sri Lanka, bagging 3 wickets in his first Test. Soon after, he made his ODI debut against the same team but was dropped owing to poor form. Benn had a few good moments such as a good spell against England at Jamaica in a winning cause in 2008, a fifer against Australia at Perth, and then 15 wickets in the home Test series against South Africa in 2010.
Benn has had his ups and downs in the Test arena but produced good performances through the second half of 2014 after being recalled to the team following a four-year absence. In Test cricket, Shane Shillingford and Sunil Narine beat him in the race for some time. However, he made way back and returned during the 2014 series against New Zealand at home.
Benn may not be a huge turner of the ball but it is the height from which he delivers and the bounce that he generates which causes most batsmen problems. Ace spinner, Benn announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in June 2019.
