The young Bangladeshi player emerged from the under-19 setup, Mosaddek Hossain is an all-rounder who has the knack of playing big strokes and has the ability to take wickets at crucial junctures.
The right-handed batsman first rose to prominence in the 2013 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, where he impressed everyone with his all-round abilities. He struck a century and three fifties in the tournament and it earned him a call-up to the Bangladesh under-19 team for the World Cup in 2014.
In 2015, in his 12th First-Class match, Hossain became the first Bangladeshi player to score three domestic double centuries.
After amassing a staggering amount of runs in the domestic arena, he earned his maiden international call-up in 2016. The player made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe and was economical in his very first game.
Good performances in the T20I series earned him his ODI debut against Afghanistan in the very same year. Despite his all-round efforts, Bangladesh lost the match by 2 wickets. Hossain scored a run-a-ball 45 and then picked up 2 crucial wickets as his efforts went in vain.
The following year, Hossain was added to the Test squad to play a one-off Test match against India away from home. However, he did not feature in the match as Bangladesh were drubbed inside three days.
He finally got a chance to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka in the same year. Hossain’s all-round abilities were at showcase as he slammed 75 in his very first Test innings.
The all-rounder was part of the Bangladesh squad for the 2019 World Cup. He amassed 117 runs in 7 matches, and picked up three wickets as Bangladesh were eliminated in the group stage itself.
Hossain holds the record of the fastest fifty for any Bangladeshi player, when he slammed 50 runs in just 20 deliveries against the Windies.
The allrounder is clearly a very talented player and his ability to bat and bowl has provided Bangladesh with that cushion in the middle order. Still young, Hossain will have opportunities in the future to showcase his worth, which he has to grab with both hands.
