Bengaluru is set to witness an exciting contest as India take on West Indies in the fifth and final T20I on October 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium of the ongoing West Indies tour of India 2026.
With the five-match series level at 2-2, both teams will be eager to secure a series victory.
For India, the match is important as they will want to continue their strong record at home in T20Is. West Indies, meanwhile, have a chance to achieve a historic result by winning their first bilateral T20I series in India in 24 years.
That being said, in this article, let's look at the last time West Indies won a Bilateral series in India.
When Was West Indies' Last Bilateral Series Win In India?
The West Indies last won a bilateral series against India on Indian soil during the 2002–03 tour. The Caribbean team defeated India 4-3 in a seven-match ODI series played in October and November 2002.
The series featured several close contests, with both teams winning matches throughout the tour. West Indies started strongly by winning the 1st ODI at Jamshedpur by 4 wickets and continued the good form by winning the 2nd ODI by 7 wickets.
But West Indies fought back in the third ODI game and won the match by 81 runs.
In the fourth ODI at Ahmedabad, India again defeated West Indies by 5 wickets. However, in the last three ODIs, West Indies won the two matches and hence won the series 4-3.
Since that series, West Indies have not won a bilateral series against India in India across Tests, ODIs or T20Is.
Leading performers from the series:
- Chris Gayle (West Indies): 455 runs
- Ramnaresh Sarwan (West Indies): 436 runs
- VVS Laxman (India): 312 runs
- Rahul Dravid (India): 300 runs
- Vasbert Drakes (West Indies): 10 wickets
- Pedro Collins (West Indies): 8 wickets
- Virender Sehwag (India): 8 wickets
Can West Indies End Their Long Wait Against India?
West Indies now have another opportunity to make history as they face India in the deciding and much-awaited fifth T20I.
India, on the other hand, will aim to protect their impressive home record. Their last home T20I series defeat came against Australia in February 2019, when Australia won the two-match series 2-0.
A West Indies victory would mark their first bilateral T20I series win in India and their first bilateral series victory against India on Indian soil since 2002.
For the Caribbean side, it is a chance to end a long wait of 24 Years.
