Mumbai Indians succumbed to a crushing defeat against the CSK in match number 44 of the IPL 2026 season. The outcome marked Mumbai Indians’ seventh defeat in nine games this tournament to fall to the brink of a certain elimination from the season’s playoffs race.
Suryakumar Yadav once again failed to make an impact for his side, and the senior member has now gone seven innings since last scoring a half-century.
Despite his recent struggles with the bat, the 35-year-old still managed to secure a major landmark for his franchise, surpassing former all-rounder Kieron Pollard in the process of his CSK cameo.
Suryakumar Yadav goes past Kieron Pollard on elite list
Suryakumar Yadav charted three boundaries and a six to score 21 off 12 balls against the CSK in match 44 of the IPL 2026 season in Chennai on May 2.
The innings helped him surpass former Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard to became the second highest run-maker in the history of the franchise.
Suryakumar has aggregated 3,933 runs so far for the Mumbai Indians in 121 T20 innings (IPL and CLT20 combined) at an average of 37.10. Overall, he now finds himself just behind all-time great Rohit Sharma, trailing the legendary opener by more than 2,300 runs.

IPL 2026: Suryakumar Yadav’s season of misery
After leading Team India to its historic 2026 T20 World Cup win, Suryakumar Yadav has been struggling to replicate his T20 batting heroics for the Mumbai Indians franchise this IPL 2026 season.
In nine innings of the tournament so far, the senior batter has managed to aggregate just 183 runs at a dismal average of 20.33.
Moreover, the prolific right-hander bludgeoned 51 of those runs in a single innings against the Delhi Capitals last month, in a losing cause no less.
His prolonged dip in form has significantly blunted Mumbai Indians’ batting firepower, leaving them grappling with a string of defeats and a rapidly dwindling margin for error in IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians all but officially out of IPL 2026
Having suffered three defeats in a row, the Mumbai Indians franchise will likely become the first side of the IPL 2026 season to get eliminated from the playoffs race.
With just two wins from nine matches, the Hardik Pandya-led side is currently placed ninth on the IPL 2026 points table, doing so with a dismal NRR -0.803.
Even by winning each of their remaining seven fixtures might not guarantee a spot in the top four for the franchise. The team will now face fellow strugglers LSG in match number 47 of the tournament on Monday, May 4, in Mumbai.
