Sunil Narine for KKR [Source: AFP]
Sunil Narine, the West Indies mystery spinner, has been an asset for Kolkata Knight Riders for many years. Given his dedication to the team, he has been one of the most loyal members, playing almost 14 years for the same franchise since the beginning of his IPL career in 2012.
As he is set to play against Gujarat Titans in the 60th match of IPL 2026 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Sunil Narine has effectively become one of the players to play the most matches for a single team in IPL history.
Sunil Narine Sets Record With 200 Matches For KKR
Notably, Narine has picked up 203 wickets for the franchise and in the IPL as a whole, while boasting best figures of 5 for 19 in the tournament and bowling at an economy rate of 6.78.
While his stats are commendable as an IPL player, Sunil Narine also completed his 200th match while playing in the KKR versus GT clash.
Most matches for a Single Team in IPL:
- 279 - Virat Kohli for RCB
- 248 - MS Dhoni for CSK
- 239 - Rohit Sharma for MI
- 200* - Sunil Narine for KKR*
With this achievement, Narine is now one of the few legendary players with the most matches for a single team in the IPL. Virat Kohli tops the chart with 279 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a team he has been playing for since the inaugural edition in 2008.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni too has 248 matches for CSK, while he is second on the list, with Rohit Sharma, another India veteran, having played 239 matches for Mumbai Indians.
Sunil Narine's feat is now ranked among the maestros of the IPL, as the mystery spinner and occasional pinch-hitter has been one of the most effective bowlers and among the most difficult spinners for batters to play.

Narine In IPL 2026 So Far
So far in IPL 2026, Narine has played ten matches while taking 11 wickets. Although it seems like an underwhelming number, his economy rate of 6.64 is one of the best among spin bowlers in the IPL so far, while his strike rate stands at 21.00.
This further underlines his ability to extract movement on almost every pitch and restrict the run flow against set batters at the crease. The most wickets he took in a match in IPL 2026 came against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, where he scalped two wickets in both matches.

KKR's Qualification Scenario Hangs In The Balance
Although things have been going great for Sunil Narine, Kolkata Knight Riders are now hanging by a delicate thread in the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
After losing the match against RCB, Kolkata now need to win all three of their remaining matches in the tournament.
Even after that, a massive set of permutations and combinations involving other teams' results, along with a positive net run rate, would be required for Kolkata to move into the top four spots.
With other teams in better form and possessing a stronger net run rate, it is, however, unlikely that Kolkata will manage to make it to the playoffs this season of the IPL.
