The 1st Eliminator of the MLC 2026 witnessed a run fest from Washington Freedom and MI New York, as Steve Smith, Andries Gous and Nicholas Pooran entered history books with flamboyant centuries. After Pooran hammered a scintillating 31-ball hundred, Smith and Gous outclassed his magnificent knock, powering the Freedom to a sensational win at the Oakland Coliseum in California.

Chasing a mammoth target of 267 runs, Washington Freedom got over the line with eight balls to spare, riding on the fireworks from captain Steve Smith and experienced batter Andries Gous. As the Freedom qualify for the Challenger against San Francisco Unicorns, here's the list of all records broken in the high-scoring clash.

Nicholas Pooran registers fastest 50 and 100 in MLC history

Destructive MI New York batter Nicholas Pooran recorded the fastest fifty as well as the century in the MLC history. Pooran brought up his fifty in 14 balls before breaching the 100-run mark in 31 deliveries.

He broke Rovman Powell's record (50 in 15 balls) to register the fastest fifty, while going past Finn Allen (34-ball 100) to record the quickest hundred in the competition.

While Pooran lit up the stage with a 33-ball 106, valiant half-centuries from Quinton de Kock (24-ball 51) and Kieron Pollard (25-ball 64) powered MI New York to 266.

However, Steve Smith and Andries Gous hammered 110 and 132 runs, respectively, as Washington Freedom made the mockery of the target and chased it down in 18.4 overs.

Australian legend Steve Smith had blown hot and cold in the MLC 2026, amassing 238 runs at a modest average of 26.45 prior to the eliminator clash between Washington Freedom and MI New York.

He redeemed himself in the all-important knockout clash, smashing a 40-ball ton, the fastest hundred of his illustrious career. His century is also the third-fastest ton by any batter in the history of MLC.

Andries Gous etches his name in history books

Veteran USA batter Andries Gous played a pivotal role in Washington Freedom's historic win. Coming at number four, Gous smashed 132 runs off just 51 balls, registering the fourth highest individual score in MLC.

While the fireworks from Pooran, Pollard and De Kock propelled MI New York to 266, Washington Freedom finished their innings on 270 runs for four wickets. Thus, the two teams accumulated 536 runs combined, the highest match aggregate in MLC history.
