The Sri Lanka cricket team pulled off a sensational heist against England in match number three of the Pakistan ODI Tri-series 2026 in Rawalpindi. Chasing 430 runs for a win, Sri Lanka overhauled its monumental target with a ball and wickets to spare to register their opening points of the series.
With the outcome, Sri Lanka not only pulled off its highest successful run chase of all time, but also recorded the second highest successful chase in ODI history, falling only behind South Africa’s 2006 Johannesburg epic against Australia.
Sri Lanka record only third 400-plus chase in ODI history, and second in a month
The Sri Lanka cricket team made lightwork of England’s historic 429-run total in Rawalpindi in match number three of the 2026 Pakistan ODI tri-series on October 22.
A century from Pavan Rathnayake, blistering 97s from Dasun Shanaka and Avishka Fernando, as well as a sizzling half-century from Janith Liyanage helped Sri Lanka mow down England’s total with two wickets and a ball to spare.
The outcome marked Sri Lanka’s highest successful run chase in history, and the second highest of all time in ODI cricket. Moreover, the occasion also marked only the third instance in ODI folklore where a team chased down 400-plus runs to win a match.

The Sri Lanka team also recorded the highest successful run chase in an ODI match played in Pakistan. The hosts held the previous record by chasing down South Africa’s 353-run total in Karachi last year.
