In a significant blow to India Women, fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. The three-match series starts on Friday, October 23 in Vadodara.

The BCCI named Jintimani Kalita as Renuka’s replacement on Thursday. Kalita was part of India’s recently concluded T20I series against Zimbabwe and has travelled with the team for the ODI series.

Renuka Singh Thakur Ruled Out As She Builds Bowling Workload At CoE

The BCCI confirmed that Renuka Singh Thakur has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe as she continues to build up the bowling workload required for ODIs at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

"She [Renuka Singh Thakur] is still building up the bowling volume required for the 50-over format at the BCCI Centre of Excellence," the BCCI media release said.

The Women’s Selection Committee has named Jintimani Kalita as Renuka’s replacement. The 22-year-old Assam pacer will add depth to India’s pace attack, which also features Nandni Sharma, Kranti Gaud and Sayali Satghare.

India's updated ODI Squad vs Zimbabwe: Smriti Mandhana (C), Shafali Verma, Pratika Rawal, Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma [VC], Richa Ghosh (WK), Yastika Bhatia (WK), Vaishnavi Sharma, Nandni Sharma, Sree Charani, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, Jintimani Kalita.

Renuka Singh Thakur's Recent Injury History Raises Concerns

Renuka Singh Thakur has struggled with back stress fractures in the past, including a recurrence in 2025 that kept her out of action. The 30-year-old pacer has also faced workload management concerns.

In March 2026, the BCCI rested Renuka for the one-off Test against Australia, advising her to manage her workload. She later returned to action, featuring only in T20Is for India, including two matches at the T20 World Cup in June.

Since 2025, Renuka has taken just 7 wickets in 10 ODIs at an average of 55.28. These are disappointing numbers for the experienced Indian pacer, who has struggled to replicate her best ODI form.

Her last appearance in ODIs came against Australia Women in March at Hobart. Ruled out of the Zimbabwe series, Renuka will now likely target a return during India's multi-format tour of South Africa in December.
