Rickelton joins Rohit in elite list [Source: AP]
In the last few years, the Mumbai Indians have made some questionable IPL signings, but buying South African star Ryan Rickelton has been a brilliant investment in the long run. He played his part for MI in the last IPL campaign, when the team reached the playoffs, but this season, he has gone even better.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Rickelton has led the Mumbai attack on his shoulders and has been their saviour for the entire campaign.
In the ongoing IPL, the left-handed batter has played with aggression and has utilised the power play to his and MIβs advantage. The same pattern was followed by him in the CSK Vs MI IPL 2026 match at Chepauk, when the MI side lost Will Jacks early, but Rickelton looked in ominous touch.
Rickelton creates six-hitting feat vs CSK
Rickelton was a completely different beast against the Chennai Super Kings, as he utilised the power play conditions, and tonked 5 sixes inside the first 6 overs to bamboozle the Super Kings.
He smashed 37 off 24 deliveries, including 5 humongous sixes, and in the process, the South African batter entered an elite IPL list.
He became the MI player with the joint second-most sixes struck inside the power play (5 sixes), and joined Rohit Sharma, and Sanath Jayasuriya in this feat. Jayasuriya smashed 7 sixes against CSK in the 2008 edition, while Rohit hammered 5 against KKR in the ongoing season.

Rickelton's stellar IPL 2026 season so far
Before the start of the IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians trusted Rickelton, and the South African swashbuckler became their first-choice opener. He was dropped for a game by the franchise, but overall, the left-handed opener has done extremely well.
While others have struggled for runs, the hard-hitting batter has amassed 296 runs in just seven matches, with a strike rate of 180, which is an improvement from his 150 strike rate in IPL 2025.
Moreover, the batter also has a century to his name, as he has been Mumbai Indiansβ lone warrior with the bat.

Other key record broken by Rickelton in IPL 2026
In MIβs last game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the 29-year-old broke a 18-year-old long record and became the MI player with the fastest IPL hundred.
At the Wankhede Stadium, he tore down the SRH attack and smacked a 44-ball century to shatter Jayasuriyaβs feat. The Sri Lankan opener had hammered a 45-ball ton against CSK in the inaugural season, and that record stood long for the next 18 years.
