Indian leg-spinner Prema Rawat demonstrated her wares with the bat in match number 74 of the ongoing Senior Women’s T20 Trophy Elite 2026 season. Batting at number four for the Uttarakhand Women cricket team, the cricketer smashed a thunderous half-century in record time.
Rawat even broke the all-time record of Pakistan captain Fatima Sana to become the fastest half-centurion in the history of T20 cricket, in terms of number of balls faced.
Prema Rawat surpasses Fatima Sana, smashes T20 cricket’s fastest 50
Prema Rawat blasted a 14-ball half-century for the Uttarakhand Women cricket team against Hyderabad Women in match 74 of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy Elite 2026 at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Pune on Monday, November 2.
The 25-year-old launched six boundaries and four huge sixes through the course of her innings as Uttarakhand mounted 187-2 in 20 overs upfront.
The innings now marks the fastest-ever half-century recorded in the history of T20 cricket, surpassing the previous record set by Pakistan all-rounder Fatima Sana. The Pakistan captain attained the feat just earlier this year at Karachi’s National Stadium against Zimbabwe Women.
In the match, Fatima Sana reached her fifty from 15 balls to break the previous 18-ball record of RCB star and New Zealand legend Sophie Devine in a 2015 match against India Women in Bengaluru.
Needless to say, Fatima continues to hold the record for the fastest half-century in a Women’s T20I match for her 15-ball blitzkrieg against Zimbabwe.
How will Prema Rawat’s record 50 impact her in the long run?
Prema Rawat, a specialist leg-spinner for Team India, made her international debut just a few months ago in June during the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
Since then, the cricketer has played seven T20Is for Team India, and was a crucial member of the squad that lifted the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai a couple of months ago. Moreover, she picked up seven wickets in just five innings of the competition at an impressive bowling average of 10.71.
With her fastest fifty record in domestic cricket, the Indian team management might now have an entirely new dimension to consider, with Rawat showing that she can offer far more than just her leg-spin and potentially emerge as a genuine batting option lower down the order.
