Young Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana etched his name in history books, courtesy of a fiery spell in the first ODI against Pakistan. The right-arm fast bowler dismantled Pakistan with a sensational opening spell, leaving them rattled at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Nahid Rana has been a prolific performer for Bangladesh across all formats. The tall pacer, who made his debut in 2024, has always stepped up against Pakistan, and it was no different in the ODI series opener in Dhaka. He registered a unique bowling record, becoming the first-ever player from his country to do so.

Nahid Rana runs through Pakistan with a five-wicket haul

After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz invited the tourists to bat first. Although Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat stitched a steady stand of 41 runs, Nahid Rana broke the partnership, drawing the first blood for his team.

He dismissed Farhan before getting rid of Sadaqat, leaving the Pakistani team in a disarray. The talented speedster made the most of the conditions in Mirpur, surprising the opponents with sheer pace and steep bounce.

Nahid consistently clocked more than 140 kph, asking tough questions to the Pakistani batters. He further got the prized scalps of Shamyl Hussain, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, recording a memorable five-wicket-haul in the process.

The 23-year-old thus recorded the best-ever bowling figures from his team against the Pakistani side in own backyard, surpassing 3/4 by Mahmudullah.

Riding on Nahid Rana's seam-bowling masterclass, the Tigers ran through the Pakistani batting unit on a seam-friendly pitch at Mirpur. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz's decision to bowl first paid rich dividends for the home team.

While Rana became the first-ever Bangladesh player to bag a fifer against Pakistan in home ODIs, captain Miraz emerged as the go-to man in the middle overs.

The experienced off-spinner played a crucial role in derailing the tourists' lower middle order, dismissing Hussain Talat, Abdul Samad and Shaheen Afridi.

Talat and Shaheen were trapped plumb in front of the stumps, while Samad wasted a valuable DRS despite getting an outside edge of his bat. As a result, Pakistan suffered one of the worst batting collapses in recent times, setting the tone for a resounding victory for their opponents.
