Arafat Minhas was all over England on Tuesday evening, as Pakistan comprehensively defeated the visitors in Rawalpindi. With the win in the second match, Pakistan took a step closer to reaching the final of the tri-series, involving England and Sri Lanka.
The left-arm orthodox bowler was only playing his fifth ODI and already had two five-wicket hauls, stamping his authority on the format. With his spell, he also climbed up an elite list of Pakistan bowlers who have faced England previously.
Arafat Minhas' spin-web etched in history
Minhas was the last bowler Shaheen Afridi introduced to the bowling attack, as Pakistan looked to defend a healthy total of 303 runs. The 20-year-old did not take too long to create an impact and got rid of the well-set Tom Banton on his third ball of the day, as the batter struck one straight to midwicket.
Minhas returned for his second over and rattled Harry Brook's off-stump with a classic left-arm finger spinner's dismissal to push England's backs to the wall. Later in the innings, he ripped through the lower middle-order, dismissing Jordan Cox and Jamie Overton in back-to-back overs.
To end the proceedings, Minhas barely missed a hat-trick and completed his six-fer and won Pakistan the match by a whopping margin of 87 runs. His 6/40 is the second-best ODI bowling figure for a Pakistan bowler against England.

Minhas impressing ahead of the World Cup year
The 21-year-old broke onto the scene as a teenager, making his T20I debut in 2023. However, earlier in 2026, he got his turn in the ODIs for the first time and did not take long to make his presence felt.
Ahead of the ongoing tri-series, he played three matches against Australia at home and picked 7 wickets, including 5/32 (10) on debut in Rawalpindi. Now, having only played five matches, Minhas has gotten 13 wickets at an economy rate of just 4.16, in 5 matches.
Leading up to the 2027 World Cup, he is auditioning well to lead the spin attack in the African continent.
