25-year-old young batter from Sri Lanka, Sonal Dinusha, went on a rampage against India in the 2-game Test series held at Galle and Colombo. He scored three centuries in four innings, tumbling several record books.
In the second Test at Colombo, Dinusha walked out to bat with the sole target to save the Test as India had enforced a follow-on. He not only achieved his goal but also scripted various personal milestones.
During Sri Lanka's 2nd innings of the second Test, Sonal once again displayed sheer resilience. He stitched a 112-run partnership with Keshara Nuwantha to help Sri Lanka get a significant lead on Day 5.
Dinusha brought up his 3rd century of the series in 196 balls and raised his bat towards the dressing room to soak in the appreciation.
His teammates and fans at Colombo were up on their feet as they gave Sonal a standing ovation for his heroics not only in this game but throughout the series.
Having said that, three centuries in one series is a rare feat. So naturally, Dinusha managed to achieve a few personal records to his name. Here’s a full list.
Centuries in both innings of a Test
Sonal Dinusha is only the third batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test after his team was forced to follow on, scoring hundreds in the second and third innings. Vijay Hazare and Andy Flower did it before him in 1948 and 2001, respectively.

Most 100s at no. 6 or lower in a Test series
With a total of three centuries, Sonal achieves the joint most 100s by a batter at number 6 or lower in a bilateral Test series alongside Maurice Leyland, Garry Sobers, Denis Lindsay, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ian Bell.
Most 100s for Sri Lanka vs India
The 3 hundreds also place Dinusha at the top of the most 100s for Sri Lanka vs India at number 6 or Lower in the Tests list.
Twin centuries against India
Sonal Dinusha is the first batter since Jonny Bairstow (England) in Birmingham in 2022 to score centuries in both innings of a Test against India.
Third Sri Lankan with twin tons vs India
Sonal Dinusha is the third Sri Lankan batter with 100s in both innings of a Test vs India after Duleep Mendis and Aravinda de Silva.
Most hundreds in a bilateral series
Those three centuries are the joint most hundreds in a 2-match bilateral series, achieved by Sonal alongside Aravinda de Silva, Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, Kumar Sangakkara, Younis Khan, Marnus Labuschagne and Kane Williamson
8th Sri Lankan with twin centuries
The right-handed batter becomes the 8th Sri Lankan batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test, making it the 10th such instance for Sri Lanka. He is also the 3rd Sri Lankan batter to achieve the feat against India.
2nd batter with 80+ scores in first four Tests
Sonal Dinusha becomes only the 2nd batter to score 80+ in each of his first four Test innings against India, after Everton Weekes.
Most successive fifties in a series
Sonal Dinusha achieved four fifty-plus scores vs India, which is the record for most Consecutive 50+ Scores for Sri Lanka in a 2-Match Bilateral Test Series.
Twin centuries at no. 6
Dinusha is the fifth batter with 100s in both innings from number 6 or lower in a Test match. He joins Allan Border, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Kamindu Mendis in the list.
Most runs after five Tests
With 606 runs, Sonal has ranked second in the list of most runs scored after first five Tests. Only Kamindu Mendis had more runs than him (631).
Most runs for Sri Lanka vs India Test series
Dinusha has the third most runs (420) for Sri Lanka in a Test series against India. Sanath Jayasuriya (571) leads this list while Kumar Sangakkara ranks second at 467 runs.
