Pakistan cricket suffered yet another setback as they were thrashed by England in the first Test of the three-match series at Headingley, Leeds, on Friday, August 21. It was a disappointing performance from Pakistan as they lost by an innings and 103 runs.
England dominated the match from the start and eventually completed a convincing victory. Pakistan's poor batting in the second innings once again became the biggest talking point, leaving fans frustrated.
As expected, social media was soon filled with reactions, with fans having plenty to say about another difficult day for Pakistan cricket.
Fans Tear Into Pakistan After First Test Defeat in Headingley Against England
Pakistan were never really in the contest from Day 1 at Headingley. They were bowled out for just 171 in their first innings, handing England complete control and putting themselves under pressure almost immediately.
England responded with a massive 409-run total, building a huge lead while Pakistan's bowlers struggled to stop the hosts. When Pakistan returned to bat, there was no fightback, as they collapsed for only 135 in their second innings to lose the game by an innings.

Headingley is traditionally good for batting as a Test progresses, but Pakistan showed little patience or technical ability against an England side that entered the match under pressure after leadership changes and other setbacks.
The defeat was Pakistan's fifth loss in seven Tests in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle, adding to growing concerns around the team. Fans were brutal online, with many declaring that Pakistan cricket had reached its lowest point.
Fans were already frustrated after Pakistan’s first-innings collapse, but seeing their batting deteriorate further in the second innings, resulting in an innings defeat, left supporters showing no mercy toward the shameful performance.
Netizens were so furious after Pakistan’s humiliating defeat to England at Headingley that some even urged the ICC to ban them from Test cricket, while others argued they should only play against lower-ranked teams.
Mohammad Rizwan’s Selfish Act Hits the Final Nail in the Coffin
Mohammad Rizwan’s decision to take a single off the first ball while batting with Khurram Shehzad came under heavy criticism, as it left Pakistan’s tailender batter facing 5 off the six deliveries of an over against an inform bowler like Ollie Robinson.
The move reminded fans of Babar Azam’s controversial decision against the West Indies earlier this year, when supporters accused him of protecting himself instead of taking responsibility while the tail was exposed during the 4th innings chase.
With Pakistan already completely out of the game at Headingley, Rizwan’s poor game awareness only made things worse. Fans felt the decision summed up a disappointing performance and became the final nail in Pakistan’s coffin.
Pakistan Face a Tough Road Ahead After Headingley Humiliation
Pakistan’s Headingley defeat has left fans deeply frustrated, with many questioning the players and the PCB over such a poor performance. They now sit at the bottom of the WTC points table.
Fans are demanding answers after Pakistan were outplayed in every department. The batting collapse, weak fightback and poor decisions have raised serious questions about the team’s preparation, selection and overall direction under the PCB.
Pakistan now need two back-to-back Test wins to revive their WTC campaign, starting at Lord’s next week. Fans will hope for a strong response, but after Headingley, confidence around the team remains very low.
