On Monday evening, January 12, Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan, representing the Melbourne Renegades, featured against Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League 2025–26, where he was called off the ground by captain Will Sutherland following a poor outing with the bat.

Mohammad Rizwan was batting on 26 off 23 balls when he was asked to leave the field. Although it was the first innings, skipper Sutherland felt that the pace at which Rizwan was scoring could be non-beneficial for the team, as they were looking to put a competitive total on the board.

Mohammad Rizwan pulled out of the field for slow run rate

Notably, the 33-year-old Pakistan veteran had scored only 10 runs from his last 12 balls before he was called out, reflecting his slippery form in the ongoing BBL 2025–26 season.

In the 18th over, Rizwan, who came in to bat at number four, was retired out. However, Will Sutherland failed to convert the tactical swap into a big finish, as he was run out by Daniel Sams in the same over.

Mohammad Rizwan struggled to make an impact, and his only notable partnership came with Hassan Khan, during which the pair added 64 runs off 43 deliveries.

Rizwan's below average BBL season

Mohammad Rizwan endured a largely below-average BBL season this year. Across his eight appearances, he managed to score 167 runs, averaging just 20.88 at a modest strike rate of 101.83. 

His only noteworthy knock came against the Melbourne Strikers, where he scored 41 runs off 38 deliveries.
